August 25, 2015 Do Now  For each event explain if there would or would not be a different outcome if we had a direct democracy. Instead of war, they could have dealt with their problems in a different way.

Republican Form of Government 1. The power of government is held by the people. 2. The people give power to leaders they elect to represent them and serve their interests. 3. The representatives are responsible for helping all the people in the country, not just a few people.

Why This Form of Government? 4. Fairness. The Founders believed that laws made by the representatives they elected would be fair. 5. The laws would help everyone instead of one person or a few favored people. 6. People would have greater freedom and be able to live well.

Why This Form of Government? 7. It is not intended to ever be a monarchy. 8. Allows the federal government to address issues at the state level if necessary.
