My Plate My plate originally started out as the food pyramid, but was changed to my plate by the United States Department of agriculture. Return

Fruits To fulfill the recommended amount of fruit, a person may eat any fruit or have 100% fruit juice. At least 1 to 2 cups of fruit are needed per day per person. Return

Vegetables It is recommended that a person consumes 2 to 3 cups of vegetables. Vegetables can be cooked, raw, 100% vegetable juice, cut, canned, whole, or mashed. Return

Grains Grains can be classified as whole grains or refined grains. At least half of all grains consumed should be whole grains. Most Americans should consume between 5 and 6 ounces of grains. Return

Proteins Proteins include a wide variety of foods like, meat, chicken, seafood, nuts, eggs, and beans. It is recommended that people consume 5 to 6 ounces of protein foods. Return

Dairy Fluid milk, as well as foods made with milk are considered to fulfill the dairy requirement. Foods with little calcium like cheese and butter are not considered dairy by My Plate, but soy milk products are counted. 3 cups of dairy are recommended. Return

Oils Although oils are not considered a food group, they provide us with many needed nutrients. Oils are fat that are liquid at room temperature. A person should have 5-6 teaspoons of oil. Return
