Describing Motion Essential Question: Are distance and time important when describing motion?

Objective Students will learn Vocabulary to help them develop overall meaning for motion.

Motion Definition: Occurs when an object changes position relative to a reference point. Reference point: A fixed place that you use to help to find your way or to see where other things are.

Distance Definition: How far an object has traveled.

Displacement Definition: distance and direction of an object’s change in position from starting point.

Do Now:

Example: Calculate the total distance from point A to point B. What is the displacement? 100 meters

Example: Calculate the total distance of the car ride from point A to point B. What is the displacement? 50 meters 30 meters 40 meters 20 meters

What is to distance it takes Daniel to go to the store and go back home? What is his displacement? 50 meters one way
