Rock of the 1970’s Folk, Disco, Guitar Rock and everything in between

Fleetwood Mac  First album – Fleetwood Mac was a very blues influenced album  In their early years they recorded many songs at Chess Records in Chicago  Not much success prior to 1975.

Fleetwood Mac  British/American Band formed in 1967  Only original member of the band still with it is Mick Fleetwood  Started as a blues oriented band in the late 60’s.

Fleetwood Mac  Success came with addition of Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham to the group.  First album with this group sold 5 million copies in the U.S. and went to #1  Followed up with Rumours which was an even bigger hit.  Won Grammy for “Album of the Year”  Sold 19 million copies in the U.S.

Fleetwood Mac  Members of the band had successful solo projects during this time.  This line-up disbanded in 1987; however some version of the band continued and still performs to this day.

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young  American folk-rock super group composed of David Crosby, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash and Neil Young.  Known for intricate vocal harmonies.  All four members have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice.

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young  David Crosby was a member of the 60’s group, The Byrds.  Stills and Nash had also been part of groups that disbanded  Realized that they had a good vocal chemistry; created a new group  Signed with Atlantic Records.

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young  Because of their experiences with previous groups, they decided to use their last names as the name of the group so that it couldn’t go on without one of them.  Released their first album in  Added Neil Young that year and went on tour.

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young  From 1970 – 1974 they didn’t do much together due to personality conflicts.  1974 they put aside their differences and did a stadium tour.  Recorded a few more songs together, but never consistently.  Did some touring and recording in the 1980’s

Grateful Dead  American rock band formed in 1965 in San Francisco  Known for unique style which fused elements of rock, folk, bluegrass, blues, reggae, country, jazz and psychedelic rock.  Fans of the group would often follow the band from performance to performance – known as Deadheads

Grateful Dead  Began their career as the Warlocks.  First show under the new name was in December 1965  The name was supposedly taken from a dictionary entry referring to a ghost of a dead person who is thankful to someone who is living for arranging their burial.

Grateful Dead  Toured almost constantly throughout the early 1970’s  Released two albums in the early 70’s: Wake of the Flood and The Grateful Dead from the Mars Hotel.  In the 80’s and 90’s several members died of drug or alcohol related illnesses or overdoses.  Disbanded after Jerry Garcia’s death in 1995

Grateful Dead  Known for changing their live performances every night. Did not play the same set when on tour.  Had solid record sales but were always more about the live performances and that is what made them popular.
