Today you will be reading listening to excerpts from the world's oldest known story. It was written more than 4,000 years ago in Sumer. This epic tells the story of the hero Gilgamesh and his many adventures.

The Epic of Gilgamesh was written on 12 tablets in cuneiform and discovered in Nineveh, in present- day Iraq. The tablets were found in the library of Assyrian king Ashurbanipal who reigned in BC Epic of Gilgamesh Major Characters: Gilgamesh and Enkidu Setting: Uruk
