Need #1: Time Who is your elected official? - identify the elected official - get to know the elected official; bio Know who has jurisdiction over what you want Be prepared for every conversation: succinct, clear, easily digestible, and specific Get to know the staff!

Need # 2: Votes Invite elected officials to events Provide access to their constituents Choose your representatives strategically Don’t let yourself get isolated as a charter leader- build coalition Have your school be seen as a voting bloc Publicize elections at your school Know the rules of the game

Need #2 (cont.): Mobilization Charter Leaders are Masterful Mobilizers –Mobilization is really just education and communication Be a Conduit for information –Both good and bad outcomes –Give Awards and Recognitions when Appropriate –Let them know your community is listening and watching Know the Rules – But Don’t Be Afraid –501c3 Organizations and Leaders can lobby –Individuals Citizens can lobby, have positions on candidates, and ballot measures (See Handout and Check with Legal)
