Overview I must say that Ohio is clearly the best state in the country because I was born there! Ohio also has many amazing places and inventions that I will tell you about in this presentation. Many amazing people where born in Ohio too. I hope you enjoy my presentation about the fascinating state of Ohio.

Ohio Ohio has many mountains, plains, hills, and valleys. Such as the Little Mountain, Rich Hill, Miami Valley, and the Hocking Hills. Ohio borders Pennsylvania on the East and Indiana to the West. It is smaller than Utah, but has WAY more people with a population of 11.5 million!

U.S presidents From Ohio Surprisingly, 8 of our 43 U.S presidents were from the state of Ohio. Here is a list… 1. Warren G. Harding 2. William Howard Taft 3. William Henry Harrison 4. Rutherford B. Hayes 5. Benjamin Harrison 6. James A. Garfield 7. William McKinley 8. Ulysses S. Grant

Other Famous People From Ohio I am proud to say that my amazing birth place was also a birth place for many other famous people. I guess Ohio is the place where successful people are born! Here are a few I found: Molly Shannon, LeBron James, Steven Spielberg, Halle Berry, R.L Stine, Russell Wilson, Stephen Curry, John Legend, Thomas Edison, Neil Armstrong, Katie Holmes, and Maryn Stewart. So you can see there are a lot of cool people from Ohio.

Cool Inventions Did you know that the candy Lifesavers were invented in Ohio? Lifesavers are a hard candy in the shape of a life saver. They were invented by a wonderful man named Clarence Crane in I love Lifesavers! The first mechanical cash register was also invented in 1879 in Dayton, Ohio by James Ritty.

First Gasoline Automobile In 1891, John Lambert of Ohio City invented America’s first successful automobile that ran on gasoline. He called it a “horseless carriage”. In Ohio City each July, they celebrate “Lambert Days” in his honor.

Ohio beat the rest! Ohio was ahead of the other states in public safety. Did you know that Ohio was actually the first state to use police cars? They also had the first ambulance service and the first city fire department.

Electricity Cleveland, Ohio was one of the luckiest cities in the U.S.! Cleveland was the first city to lighted by electricity! Thomas Edison is from Milan, Ohio and when he invented the light bulb he wanted to light the streets of Cleveland. So, that’s where the first traffic light was installed in 1914.

Do you like sports? The first professional baseball team was the Cincinnati Reds. The Pro Football hall of fame is located in Canton, Ohio. The Hall of Fame’s mission is “To honor the heroes of the game.” I think that it is cool that there is so many amazing places in Ohio.

Ohio State Buckeyes! I am a big Ohio State buckeyes fan. The Ohio State University is in the city of Columbus, where my family used to live. Game days are a big deal for people in Columbus! If you go to the grocery store on a game day everyone will be wearing Ohio State shirts, pants, headbands, etc. People will have flags up, signs on their houses. It is crazy! Ohio Sate won the college football championship last year.

Flag! Ohio’s state flag is not a rectangle like all the other flags, instead in is a pennant shape. The blue triangle represents Ohio’s hills and valleys. It has 17 white stars but, the thirteen stars around the circle represent the 13 colonies. The red and white strips represent the roads and waterways of Ohio. Can you see the big white circle? That is an “O” for Ohio. It is also supposed to by a buckeye nut for Ohio’s nickname “The Buckeye State.”

Cedar Point Have any of you heard about Cedar Point or been there? For those of you who don’t have a clue what I’m talking about, Cedar Point is an amusement park. Cedar Point is known as one of the best amusement parks in the world. There is rides that I didn’t even know was possible to build. I am sad that my family didn’t go when we lived in Ohio.

Amish Did you know that Ohio has the largest Amish population of any state in the nation? Amish people originated in Switzerland. But the majority of them are in the U.S now. Amish people refuse to vote or take an oath. They also shun modern technology and don’t use electricity. Amish people ride around on a horse or buggy.

Farming Ohio has a lot of farms. The biggest crops are: 1-Soybeans 2-Corn 3-Dairy Products and speaking of corn…

The Field of Corn In Dublin, Ohio there is a field of cement corn statues. The 109 ears of corn stand in straight rows 8 feet in the air. They were built in honor Sam Frantz who invented the hybrid corn. For those of you who don’t know, hybrid crops are two kinds of plants which people breed together to make a mix of the two. People can go to the field and run around. I recommend this place highly!

Other interesting facts If you go to the garden center to buy plants for your yard, chances are they were grown in Ohio. They are the leading producer of greenhouse plants. Fun Fact: I think that Ohio might have the strangest state beverage-- tomato juice!

Legos! In Bellaire, Ohio There is an unofficial Lego museum called the “Toy and Plastic Brick Museum”. It is said that there is some of the best Lego creations known to man in this museum. People travel far to come see the amazing things that were created with Legos. I think it is crazy that one person could own so many Legos!

Caves Ohio has many amazing caves. Such as “Fantasyland,” Big room,” and “Palace of the Gods,” there is many more. People go all the time to walk and hike through all the caves in Ohio. There is some caverns that were created thousands of years ago when an underground river cut through limestone, leaving a passage way. The underground river left many different formation for people to enjoy.

Conclusion I hope you enjoyed my presentation about the wonderful state of Ohio! I sure learned a lot of interesting facts while researching. In my opinion, Ohio is the best state in the U.S.! There are so many cool people from Ohio, amazing things invented there and so much to do there! I hope I can go back to visit someday. I LOVE Ohio! Thanks for watching!
