Solomon by Ally Keasler Jacob Aquino Nathalie Dinsdale

Characterization Solomon: the son of the king, David. When David dies, Solomon becomes the king of Israel. He is a wise ruler, and a child of God. However, he becomes corrupted by his wives who teach him to worship other beings. David: the father of Solomon and the old king of Israel. He dies and leaves the kingdom to his son Solomon The Princess of Egypt: the first of Solomon's wives

Theme One should stay true to who they are and not let others effect them negatively

Important passage 1 ‘’… so be strong, act like a man, and observe what the lord your god requires. Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the law of Moses.’’ This is important because David is telling Solomon what he has to do be a king and what rules he needs to follow

Passage 2 ‘’… Your servant is here among you the people have chosen…. So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish right from wrong.’’ Solomon is telling god that he wishes for wisdom instead of riches because knowledge is the greatest gift of all

Passage 3 ‘’ And forgive your people who have sinned against you; forgive all the offences they have committed…’’ Shows that Solomon must forgive and be fair to everyone so justice is served

Connections Solomon makes alliances with the other kingdoms = making friends in high places to hook you up Built a temple to worship god = memorials to remember people Solomon is the administer of justice = the judge in court systems David’s words to Solomon = a persons dying wish / will

Questions 1. How would David have handled the problems thrust upon Solomon (i.e. the challenge from the queen, the building of the temple, the corruption of the wives)? 2. What do you think began Solomon's distancing himself from God? 3. The story of Solomon and the two women fighting over the baby has been told many times throughout history, and even most who have not read the Bible know the story. Why is this story so popular in literature and culture?
