On the next slide you will view a painting depicting the mighty Hercules. On the back side of your Hercules paragraph page, please write down details that you notice.

Background Title: Choice of Hercules Year Created: 1596 Artist: Annibale Carracci ( Italian Baroque painter )Baroquepainter The Baroque is a period of artistic style that used exaggerated motion (and clear, easily interpreted detail) to produce drama in paintings. The style began around 1600 in Rome, Italy, and spread to most of Europe. The popularity and success of the Baroque style was encouraged by the Catholicism in response to the Protestant Reformation.

Analyze for color, shading, positions of bodies, facial expressions, objects in background, etc. Artists express ideas using color, line, symmetry, etc. to convey meaning much like a writer uses word choice, organization, and sentence structure. What is the main idea of this painting? In other words, how is the artist portraying Hercules? What are the details about the painting that show you this?
