Sentence review

You need to know: What a simple sentence is -It is an independent clause -It contains at least one subject and at least one verb -It expresses a complete thought -It CANNOT be divided into more than one complete thought

What a compound sentence is -It is two or more independent clauses joined together -It uses either a semicolon -Or a comma and coordinating conjunction (FANBOYS) -It can be divided into two or more separate complete thoughts

What a fragment is -It is NOT a complete sentence/independent clause -It is missing the subject -It is missing the verb -It is missing both the subject and verb -Or it just does not express a complete thought (leaves you hanging)

What a run on is -It is a compound sentence that is missing the comma -It is missing the coordinating conjunction -Or both -Or there is no semi colon -Remember that it is a compound sentence not put together correctly

What the four types of sentences are: 1.Declarative -makes a statement -ends with a period 2. Imperative -gives a command -ends with a period 3. Exclamatory -expresses strong feeling or emotion -ends with an exclamation point 4. Interrogative -asks a question -ends with a question mark

Let’s practice 1. The spirit bear is a white variant of the North American black bear, and it’s found almost exclusively in the Great Bear Rainforest. 2. A white bear steps out of the tree cover. 3. The bear swings his head from side to side, it is peering into an eddy for salmon. 4. Although spirit bears are extremely reclusive 5. I can’t wait to see a spirit bear!
