May not contain specific evidence. May contain significant errors of fact or interpretation.

Homework Carefully read each of three included essays (3A, 3C, and 3E…one at a time) Use the “rubric” (we discussed in class) Award each essay a score of 0 to 9 Write a thorough and detailed explanation of why you awarded each of the scores (SEE THE NEXT TWO SLIDES)

This essay has a clear, analytical thesis that addresses aims, methods, and degrees of success. The discussion of the Council of Trent shows a depth of understanding. The student explains methods and analyzes success. There is a limited discussion and analysis of the role of the Jesuits, preventing the essay from receiving a 9. (Score 8) For Example (not one of your essays to read)

This essay contains a weak and confused start, but identifies the aim of the Catholic Reformation reforms and methods (new orders, reinstating doctrine). There are errors of fact and interpretation in the treatment of Augsburg, but the discussion of the Council of Trent is more solid. The essay is descriptive regarding the new orders, but there is minimal linkage explaining how the creation of new orders occurred. (Score 5) For Example…another example (not one of your essays to read)

Homework (continued) Carefully each essay (3A, 3C, and 3E) Use the “rubric” (we discussed in class) Award each essay a score of 0 to 9 Write a thorough and detailed explanation of why you awarded each of the scores This assignment is due at our next class meeting It is imperative you completely finish this on time and are ready for class, therefore you may not use a Golden Ticket on this assignment.
