SECTION B – CHARITIES UNICEF DONATIONS Claims that less than 14% of UNICEF’s donations go to the actual cause (less than $0.14 per dollar of income) Only pennies from the actual donation goes to the advertised cause CEO gets $1,200,000 from donations in a year Marsh J Evans gets paid $651,957 from UNICEF Only $0.14 from the actual donation goes to helping child labour

SECTION B – UNICEF AD`S -UNICEF uses advertisements and posters to increase awareness on child labour, like this one for example. In this photo, you can see a little child labourer sitting and looks tired, dirty and is surrounded by trash. He is wearing a shackle on his leg and has the Nike logo seared into his skin, with the caption ``Buying certain brands of shoes contribute to child labour. JUST DON`T DO IT``. This will cause people to be aware of child labour and will help donations increase. This also creates a boycott for Nike, since they are using child labour in their products. If people stop buying from them, people will not contribute to child labour and then child labourers may not be employed, which will help child labour to decrease quicker and will be easier to stop by 2016.

SECTION B – UNICEF UNICEF helps child labour by giving education with a sponsored inter-regional program called ``Education as a Preventive Strategy`` that includes: 1.) Access-Getting working children into a classroom, where they are taught early childhood programs, flexible scheduling of classes, distance learning, and bilingual education so working children can get an education 2.) Second chance opportunities-which is getting working children in school that often requires transitional arrangements, including accelerated classes and non-formal education 3.) Retention-which is keeping children at risk of dropping out because of cultural, social, economic reasons in school. Interventions include financial incentives to families, and improving the quality of education by integrating life shills and livelihood components UNICEF also helps child labour by providing income for families, access to nurseries, and quality education and protective services for child labourers.

SECTION B – CHARITIES ME TO WE DONATIONS ME to WE uses 90% of their donations for the advertised cause, while 10% of their donations is for the administrative rate In 2013 Me to We spent 46.9% of their budget towards child labour Also in 2013, Me to We spent 43.5% of their donations to child labour

SECTION B – CHARITIES ME TO WE ME to WE helps child labour by using “Adopt a Village” which is long-term support. ME to WE works with local community members to free families from poverty to make a self-sustaining. ME to WE has built 650 schools in 45 different countries to give more than 55,000 children an education In my opinion, ME to WE is the better charity because it donates more of its donations to its advertised cause and has helped more child labourers be free and have an education. They have built many schools for child labourers to learn in. The negative thing about this is that smugglers have an easier way to kidnap children from their parents, and affects the poverty cycle

SECTION C - MEDIA Media is associated with economic development Whenever a child labour issue arises, the media provides coverage When the media finds out about a company that uses child labour, the media boycotts them (e.g. tobacco industry in Malawi was boycotted after being caught using child labour) Media convinces people to support a cause using ads, commercials, articles, etc. Media catches peoples attention using creative posters or ads that interest the viewer

SECTION C – MEDIA ATTENTION Media can bring attention to child labour by using photos and ads, like this photo created by UNICEF to boycott Nike for using child labour to make their products. This photo uses many elements and principles of design, which is what makes it an effective ad. It uses colour well, with the background being grey and dirty to represent metal like in a factory he probably works in. It also uses the colour red on the foot of the child in the shape of the Nike logo which is engraved into his skin. It attracts attention and represents blood, and that he is forced into making products for Nike. The foot is in H.D in the front of the picture, making the center of focus there, while the back is a bit more blurred. The child labourer has shackles on his leg, which is also in the front, and represents that he is trapped in this industry. The child looks as if in pain, and is sucking on his thumb to show fear and pain, which attracts the viewer to this issue.

In this video, you can see many child labourers working in open space. The purpose of this video it to make people think negatively on child labour. The techniques used in this video are attention and education. They used attention by using a wide shot of many child labourers working side by side in a desert. Also, they used very young children working in very dangerous activities, which causes people to worry. Another way they used attention is constant shots of sad children while they work. They used education by having children talking about their experiences as a child labourer and mothers of child labourers talking about the un-fairness of child labour and how it isn’t fair for the children to be working.
