EPSRC Lifelong Health and Wellbeing (LLHW) Phase 3 - Pilot Studies Deadline: 15/09/ Builds on the Research Councils commitment to funding research into ageing. LLHW is dedicated to supporting research that benefits from bringing together a range of research expertise to collectively address the issues related to ageing. A total of £2.5 million (80% fEC) will be available to fund up to 10 pilot studies for a maximum of two years. Proposals will be hypothesis-driven or developing methodologies aimed at answering a research question or testing and developing an idea based on supporting evidence from existing literature or previous studies.

EPSRC Challenging Engineering Deadline: 11/08/ Focus on developing a research group, over the course of a 5 year period. This call is suitable for academics with a permanent position at an eligible UK organisation who have been awarded their PhD within the last 10 years. Funding for 10 awards, of up to £1M each across the remit of the three participating programmes: Materials, Mechanical and Medical Engineering (M3E), Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Process, Environment and Sustainability (PES) Put the emphasis on individuals who show creativity and ambition through high quality, truly innovative research, to develop new and emerging research programmes Support people that have clear plans to inspire and develop their research group; Select applicants on their vision, leadership, creativity and skills rather than just their track record; Support potentially exceptional engineering research leaders of the future who have identified ways in which their research can have a major impact for the ultimate benefit of society.

EPSRC Postdoctoral Research Fellowships Deadline: 12/08/ EPSRC is offering Postdoctoral Research Fellowships in theoretical physics, mathematical sciences and cross-disciplinary interfaces to enable the most talented new researchers to establish an independent research career shortly after completing a PhD. The awards are for a period of up to three years and cover the salary costs of the Fellow, reasonable consumables, travel and subsistence. Applicants are encouraged to take the opportunity to gain a wider research experience by changing host organisations and to demonstrate very clearly their ability to operate as independent researchers.

EPSRC – Future Calls EPSRC-NPL Post-Doctoral Research Partnerships Postdoctoral research grant scheme funding research into technologies with impact through measurement applications. Up to £13 million will be available through the partnership to support research at the National Physical Laboratory. Date of call: August 2010 & February 2011 Royal Academy of Engineering Fellowships Joint funding from RAEng and EPSRC Process Environment and Sustainability and Information and Communications Technology programmes. TSB Collaboration across digital industries Launch: 14/06/2010 Deadline:22/07/2010 (Fast Track) Deadline: 19/08/2010 (Mainstream EoI) across-digital-industries.ashx across-digital-industries.ashx Three challenge areas have been identified: People/digital content and services/networks. In this round TSB will fund two types of project addressing these challenge areas,: strategic research and development projects/ ground-breaking trials Open to all UK-based companies and research organisations in business-led consortia, and may be of particular interest to those designing and operating internet networks, or the services that operate over them, and those who are concerned with how digital content is distributed to, and used by, customers. Fast-track projects are expected to be funded up to £100k and be completed within 12 months Mainstream projects are expected to be funded in excess £100k and last between 12 and 24 months. Both types of project will attract 50% public funding.

TSB Integrating smart meters into systems for smart homes Deadline: 08/07/ developmentintegrating-smart-meters-into-systems-for-smart-ho.ashx developmentintegrating-smart-meters-into-systems-for-smart-ho.ashx The projects will integrate 'smart' meters with communications to make a 'smart' system that will have an impact on the demand for, and usage of, energy in the home. Particular interest in projects which help to understand the way in which consumer demand for energy might change in the light of the integration of smart home technologies. Consortia must be business-led and can be science-to-business or business-to-business interactions. Projects of value £400k-2M are expected to start in July or August 2010 and all projects must be completed by end of March 2011.
