SREX Viet Nam Special Report (SREX) & Practical Guidelines on Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate Change Adaptation

SREX Users of the future SREX-Viet Nam policy makers planners and designers of critical infrastructure (in the public and private sector), including investors and insurance companies. Practicianers and researchers

SREX Stakeholders in the research. Experts on climate change, disasters, vulnerability and climate change adaptation from different organizations will do desk reviews and write contributions, edit, research, model and/or peer review contributions. SREX Coverage of Extreme Events heat waves drought, especially in the south coastal region extreme rainfall in uplands extreme events in cities typhoons and tropical storms, with storm surges in the central coast region, floods in the Mekong Delta and other lowlands coastal and river bank erosion and protection saline water intrusion.

SREX Practical Guidelines Section 1 Disaster Risk management and Climatic Extremes. Strengthening of disaster risk management in light of changes in climatic extremes, in urban areas and typical rural areas (coastal, delta, mountainous,...), and that is sensitive to gender and other social relations Section 2 Mainstreaming climate change adaptation in planning and investment. Mainstreaming of climate change adaptation into provincial / municipal master plans, spatial planning and investment plans Section 3 Mainstreaming climate change adaptation in sectors. Mainstreaming of climate change adaptation in social, health and education sector plans and practices, specifically to target the most vulnerable social groups Section 4 Mainstreaming climate change adaptation in design. SREX – Chapter 9 Chapter 9 Case studies Objective of the chapter is to help readers have a better understanding on risks posed by extreme weather and climate- related events as well as effective management practices. SREX – CASE STUDIES Suggested Case studies structure: Emergency coordination; needs assessment, accountability, emergency interventions, delivery process, recovery interventions, capacity building, monitoring and evaluation, and lessons learned. Contribution from NGOs mainly through materials contribution of the Disasters Management and Climate change adaptation works in different regions in Vietnam.

Progress sofar - Materials collected from NGOs -Casestudy structure has been drafted and discussed among core groups. -Case Study structure has been discussed with IMHEN, MONRE.
