Presentation transcript:

 The Japanese art of finding beauty in the imperfections in nature (urban & landscape)  Photos reflect an acceptance of the natural cycle of growth, decay, and death

 Wabi-Sabi celebrates cracks and crevices and all the other marks that time, weather, and use leave behind

 It is very difficult to come up with a concrete definition for what abstract photography is because it can mean different things to different people  We’ll go with:  Does not represent the subject in a realistic way  Communicates through form, colour and curves rather than detail  You want to make an emotional connection with the viewer that plays were their perception

 Form  choose subjects with interesting shapes  Colour  use striking colour; could be saturated, intense or have high contrast  Curves  bring eye to a certain point, or flow through the image  Rules  use ROT or none at all!  Subtraction  take away any “details” that aren’t part of the experience

 Focus  selective focus to zero in on specific elements; blur to eliminate unwanted details or create a “soft” look  Light & Shadows  use to emphasize forms  Lines  should be purposeful, but a central focus of the image  Texture  should be dominant; can work together with lines  Partial Objects  show only pieces of your subject
