OUR MISSION AND VISION  Our mission  To advocate for the use of the 2011 Quad Council Competencies in Baccalaureate Education that expands education, practice, and research in the specialty of community / public health nursing (C/PHN).  To support education, research, and practice of  Baccalaureate faculty using competency application in the specialty of C/PHN.  Utilization of standardized evaluation tool for measuring outcomes in education, research, and practice.  Multi-regional research among baccalaureate faculty teaching C/PHN.  Our Vision  Create an opportunity for developing an attitude of collaborative inquiry that will enhance the shared values, concepts, and ideas among a C/PHN faculty and [practice] learning community. 2

PHASE I - EDUCATION  N=144 participants  Baccalaureate Faculty  Focused only on Tier 1 of the 2011 Quad Council PHN Competencies  Preliminary Qualitative Data:  I think the complexity of many of the domain items are beyond the BSN level.  [Analytic and Assessment Skills] Language is very broad and not very specific which makes it somewhat confusing. Need more precise wording so faculty know exactly what is being asked.  This domain [public health science skills] is the most limited at the undergraduate level.  [Policy Development/Program Planning] Quality improvement should be at the Advanced Practice level, not BSN.  Lots here [Financial Planning] that would be more applicable to graduate public health nursing students not undergraduate.  2016 Joint APHN and ACHNE Meeting – accepted as poster presentation only – 8

PHASE I EDUCATION QUAD COUNCIL / COUNCIL ON LINKAGES  What is the Quad Council’s agenda for revision of the quad council competencies based on the recent revisions of the PH competencies from the Council on Linkages?  Amos and Nichols - Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice Public Health Foundation June 16, 2015 webinar Association of Public Health Nurses  ~ 60% of the core competencies are used by state health departments  ~ 29% of the competencies are used by local health departments  And greater than 90% of the academic health departments; however, this data was not targeted toward the utilization of how nurses are using the PHN competencies within these organizations.  This data does not differentiate the use of the 2011 Quad Council PHN Competencies  2006 –Oppewal, Lamanna, and Glenn conducted a study to determine the utilization of the PHN competencies in practice and faculty. One of the conclusions drawn from this study was that continued dissemination was needed among faculty and practice. 9

CURRENT FUNDING  Sigma Theta Tau, Zeta Theta Chapter - The Alice Manion fund ($1500).  Alice was a retired faculty who taught many years at the University of Toledo school of nursing – an associate degree program. She had designated in her will monies from her estate to be used for nursing research. Nancy Brown-Schott worked with her on committees and attended numerous conferences in which she attended.  Our group is the first to receive funding from the Alice Manion Trust fund  ACHNE – Awarded the 2016 Association of Community Health Educators (ACHNE) Research  Grant award ( $2500) 17

WHY REACH OUT TO QUAD COUNCIL COALITION?  Discuss how our work might continue to align with the goals of the Quad Council Coalition.  Expand our Quality Management Project (Clinical Evaluation Tool) in Baccalaureate Education:  Increase faculty support and leadership in community/public health nursing education.  Support the use of the Tier I competencies as a foundation for teaching at the Baccalaureate level of nursing education.  Create a National Clinical Evaluation Tool that supports the Quad Council Competencies.  Inclusion of Global Health Competencies  Improve consensus building in relation to the competencies.  Enhance dissemination of our competencies.  Increase dissemination of the Community Learning Collaborative.  The beginning of a “National Center of Excellence for Public Health Nursing” 18
