Presentation transcript:

PSALM 33: GOD IS WORTHY OF PRAISE! Psalm 33 is a special Psalm. One of only four Psalms that does not have a title. The others are Psalms 1, 2, and 10. Many think Psalm 33 is linked with Psalm 32. In Psalm 32, David praises the Lord for forgiving his sins. Psalm 32 closes with a command to rejoice (verse 11). Psalm 33 opens with the same command. In Psalm 33 God is to be praised and worthy to be praised because He is in control.

PSALM 33: GOD IS WORTHY OF PRAISE! Psalm 33:1-3 (NKJV) Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous! For praise from the upright is beautiful. Praise the LORD with the harp; Make melody to Him with an instrument of ten strings. Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of joy.

PSALM 33: GOD IS WORTHY OF PRAISE! Psalm 33:4-9 (NKJV) For the word of the LORD is right, And all His work is done in truth. He loves righteousness and justice; The earth is full of the goodness of the LORD. By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap; He lays up the deep in storehouses. Let all the earth fear the LORD; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.

PSALM 33: GOD IS WORTHY OF PRAISE! Psalm 33:4-9 (NKJV) God’s Word is like a compass and is precious (Psalm 119:105, Proverbs 6:23) God’s work is done in truth and His word is truth (John 17:17) God’s Word is powerful and continues to be powerful today (Psalm 104:5-9, Isaiah 55:11, Hebrews 4:12, 2 Peter 3:5-7) We should praise God for his Word!

PSALM 33: GOD IS WORTHY OF PRAISE! Psalm 33:10-17 (NKJV) The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect.  The counsel of the LORD stands forever, The plans of His heart to all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, The people He has chosen as His own inheritance. The LORD looks from heaven; He sees all the sons of men. From the place of His dwelling He looks On all the inhabitants of the earth; He fashions their hearts individually; He considers all their works. No king is saved by the multitude of an army; A mighty man is not delivered by great strength. A horse is a vain hope for safety; Neither shall it deliver any by its great strength.

PSALM 33: GOD IS WORTHY OF PRAISE! Psalm 33:10-17 (NKJV) God’s will is over all and is determined (Psalm 115:3) God is in control and His plan will be carried out (Psalm 135:6, Isaiah 46:9-11, Daniel 4:35) God’s people are comforted that things will work out for our good and to His glory (Romans 8:28) God’s will gives us the path to follow (Matt. 7:13-14, 25:46) God is aware of everything (verse 13, Psalm 139:2, Proverbs 15:3, Matthew 12:36, Hebrews 4:13) Nothing man can trust in will deliver him (verses 16-17) God is worthy of our praise because He is over all and all knowing!

PSALM 33: GOD IS WORTHY OF PRAISE! Psalm 33:18-22 (NKJV) Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear Him, On those who hope in His mercy, To deliver their soul from death, And to keep them alive in famine. Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield. For our heart shall rejoice in Him, Because we have trusted in His holy name. Let Your mercy, O LORD, be upon us, Just as we hope in You.

PSALM 33: GOD IS WORTHY OF PRAISE! Psalm 33:18-22 (NKJV) God’s provides for His people (verse 19, Psalm 1:3) Nothing escapes the eye of our God (verse 18) The lost in the world live in fear, but God’s people can be comforted knowing that our God will provide for everything we need! He knows more about our needs than we do and is ready and willing to provide (Matthew 6:8, 2 Timothy 4:18) God should be praised because He provides for His children!

PSALM 33: GOD IS WORTHY OF PRAISE! Psalm 33:20-22 (NKJV) Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield. For our heart shall rejoice in Him, Because we have trusted in His holy name. Let Your mercy, O LORD, be upon us, Just as we hope in You.
