Sustainability and the Environment 1/2 All Tesla Roadster cars are powered by electric coal based grids. Most conventional cars are powered using petroleum, which is in short supply. Whereas coal is in plentiful supply Coal and Petroleum each have their negative effect to the environment, However coal is proven to cause less harm.

The Roadster now has the option to be powered by a solar system. The Solar system used, is believed to cause zero free emission to the environment. Its is widely believed that all things solar, will lead to a more sustainable and environmentally friendlier world. Sustainability and the Environment 2/2

Design Concepts and Technology 1/2 We already know that the Roadster is an electric car. However the Roadster is unique in the fact, that its stores electricity using lithium ion batteries. Lithium ion is considered to cause no environmental hazards. Unlike popular alternatives Lead-Acid and Nickel- Cadmium Lithium also uses far less materials and can run and last, for a longer period of time.

Design Concepts and Technology 2/2 As a result lithium ion batteries can be incorporated to other technologies, such as mobile phones etc. This can be done due its helpful nature to the environment, longer life duration and lightweight features.

Brand Image and Sales Revenue 1/2 Due to design concepts such as lithium ion batteries and solar system etc. The Roadster has received high praise from its costumers and critics, due to its excellent durability in all conditions,and innovative ways to keep the environment clean. Warren Brown from the Washington Post on the Roadster writes “ Wheee! if this the future of the auto-mobile, I want it.”.

Brand Image and Sales Revenue 2/2 However due to innovative designs that have contributed to the commercial success and being a sports car. The Roadster has inevitable been placed at the high end of the prices for cars, with prices going in the US for 109,000 dollars. This unfortunately prices out the average home. Figures however showed that the sales of the Tesla Roadster were above expected for the years 2008 – 2009.
