B IG PICTURE ‘Apply’ for a position on any of the Lloyds Banking Group Graduate Programmes Complete the dummy application form, produce an up to date tailor-made CV and letter of application by Thursday 19 th November You will be interviewed and provided with feedback on either Thursday 26 th November, Thursday 3 rd or Thursday 10 th December You will need to evaluate your performance and produce an action plan based on it following your interview feedback (due in 2 weeks after the assessment date and is the basis of the marks)

L EARNING OUTCOMES Recognise the competencies required for a role Prepare competency based interview questions and other styles of interviewing and use them to interview and be interview Give and receive feedback on interview technique

S TRUCTURED BEHAVIOURAL INTERVIEWING (SBI) SBI devised by Salgado & Moscoso 2002 (in Talbott 2013) A ‘structured interview’ means that:  questions are planned carefully before the interview  all candidates are asked the same questions  answers are scored using a rating system  questions focus on the attributes and behaviours needed in the job

I NTERVIEW Q UESTION STYLE Many interviewers use structural behavioural questioning techniques otherwise known as competency (skills, knowledge and experience) based Based on the theory that past behaviour is the best predictor of future behaviour so be prepared to offer specific examples Give specific, structured answered using the STAR technique: S ituation T ask A ction R esults

I NTERVIEW QUESTIONS In 3s design 10 interview questions based on the research you have done into what Lloyds are looking for (NB: some general things they are looking for in their brochure and on their website) You could also include some of the following: Results focused Customer focused Problem solving and decision making Team working Communication skills Relationship building Managing people Professional/technical ie related to the job specialism Don’t forget to add a few Strengths based and Interviewing for Potential Questions 15 minutes:

S PECIFIC PREPARATION Individually spend 10 minutes thinking about examples to demonstrate how you can demonstrate your competencies in these areas (write a few down if it helps but try not to read them when being interviewed) Think about your CV and anything you might need to ‘explain’ Consider your strengths and identify at least one weakness (with how you overcome it) Don’t forget to think of a couple of intelligent questions you can ask You have 10 minutes php/timerhttp:// php/timer

T RIAD INTERVIEWING Move into a group with 2 other people who prepared separate questions to you and be interviewed After your interview discuss in your 3 how it went, you view of the questions and answers. Give feedback to the interviewee on what went well and what could be done better next time Keep moving until everyone has had a chance to be interviewed

R EMAINING TIME Finish CV, application form, tailored letter for the Lloyds Graduate Scheme And/or discuss how your CV etc could be tailored to apply for a job of your choice
