Performance Assessment Considerations for Secondary School

Process vs Product Is this philosophy also important in your curricular area? Should it be? What kinds of lessons do you need to reach all of your students? If they are designed to create interactive responses, how will you mark those?

How subjective is Performance Assessment? be specific in your objectives: What are some sample objectives? -specific dramatic skills: Voice, concentration, character, memorization, look at the objectives and goals in the curriculum and plan units to reflect and mark accordingly. Where do see overlaps with other areas in the secondary curriculum?

Lesson planning is important know what you want them to do -then you will know if they accomplished it keep a balance of group and individual work. allow for a mix of performance, reflection (e.g. journal), -participation, What is a journal? How will you mark it? personal growth (how will you record this?) Personal conferences help. Anecdotal records.

Keeping marks Do you mark everything? What’s your methodology: columns, charts? Where does self and peer evaluation play a role? How can you mark “smarter?” Students are more likely to assess themselves when they feel they have invested time and energy into the product.

Work Smarter Find overlapping IRP outcomes: trust, communication, concentration, team work, problem solving, research skills,
