Une machine pour refroidir les boissons Du Nutella avec des céréales Pour commencer… Nutanix c’est : Une machine pour refroidir les boissons Du Nutella avec des céréales Une offre pour sécuriser les datacenters

The role of IT today “To move just as fast as the business, and provide it the tools and technologies it needs for new opportunities” Of all the things IT is capable of in an organization, the only thing the business really perceives IT as having is just ONE job…and that job is… Who here in the room has heard of Infrastructure Optimization?

Which strategy should I adopt – Infrastructure Optimization 1 BASIC 2 STANDARDIZED 3 RATIONALIZED DYNAMIC 4 Cost Center Reactive Problem-Driven “Avoiding Downtime” Cost Center Reactive Request-Driven “Keeping it Running” Business Enabler Proactive Providing SLAs “Quality Driven” Strategic Asset Proactive Agile “Taking The Lead” Not only is this representative of how your IT organization operates, it’s also how the business views you

How Can Nutanix Help? 2 4 1 3 DYNAMIC RATIONALIZED Introduction to standards and policies Light automation Medium touch throughout infrastructure 2 Infrastructure helps run the business efficiently Costs are controlled and predictable Processes are automated Infrastructure investments produces rapid and measureable results 4 BASIC STANDARDIZED RATIONALIZED DYNAMIC 1 Manual/complicated infrastructures Unknown health due to lack of tools Large, incremental purchases No capacity or demand planning No automation We’re a hyper-converged platform and wrap storage, storage fabric and compute together, simplifying the infrastructure stack 2. Prism, our UI, provides deep and historical analysis of the entire virtual platform 3. We bring some automation to the infrastructure where automation was non-existent before 4. Buy what you need, when you need, as we are a “pay as you grow” platform 5. As demand for your applications, services and capabilities evolve, incrementally scale your infrastructure with infrastructure built for a cloud era 6. Remove the need for over-provisioning and take the guesswork out of procurement cycles 7. Most importantly, by removing the complexity in your infrastructure, gaining the ability to be more project-focused and paying as you grow, you begin to show measureable results to the business and in addition to being more agile Optimizes policies and processes to support the business Clear view of inventory Buy what you need Able to scale 3

Evolution of the datacenter Node 1 Node 2 Node N Application Application Application Before we talk about Hyperconvergence what it actually brings to your datacenter, it is worth spending time understanding how datacenter infrastructure has evolved over the last couple of decades. This was the most common deployment model a couple of decades back. Virtualization did not exist. Applications were running on physical servers with DAS – spinning disks. If you needed better performance or if the application was large with a lot of data, you bought BAS (Big A$$ Servers). All the obvious pain points existed around predicting application growth, data growth, over provisioning etc. To help things along, shared storage came into existence – SAN and NAS solutions. They typically had disk shelves and a couple of storage controllers, that exposed the storage through diff protocols to the servers. Had obvious benefits around having shared storage – but lead to a couple of problems: Planning/budgeting and increased cost Storage controllers became the bottleneck C1 C2

Evolution of the datacenter Node 1 Node 2 Node N VM Hypervisor Hypervisor Hypervisor Flash came along and it helped with performance. But as servers became more dense and # of VMs on server started growing, the bottleneck shifted from disks to the storage controllers. Whether it was flash based storage or spinning disks, the storage controller started being the bottleneck. Every data read/write goes from the VM to the host, down through the network to the storage controller to the disks. Every hop along the way adds latency. C1 C2 Flash Flash Flash Flash Flash

Nutanix Web Scale Architecture Node 1 Node 2 Node N VM CVM CVM CVM Hypervisor Hypervisor Hypervisor Single Storage Pool Hyperconvergence solves this issue and a lot more. We still have servers with direct attached storage. But what we do is pool storage from all the servers in a cluster into a shared storage pool so that storage from all the independent nodes are available to all the nodes in the cluster and the associated VMs. You can start off with as little as 3 nodes in a cluster and incrementally grow from there. When you need additional capacity – you just add a node – either compute heavy, storage heavy depending on what you need. All the enterprise storage capabilities that shared storage solutions such as NetApp and EMC provided, Nutanix provides it. Now addressing the bottleneck/hotspot problem in shared storage – the storage controller is virtualized and is present on every node in the system. When you can virtualize mission critical workloads such as Oracle and SQL, why not virtualize storage as well. To us storage is an App as well and should be the first App that should be virtualized. Everytime a node is added a CVM gets added. All the requests from the user VM will be handled by the CVM that sits on the same node. So requests don’t typically have to go through the network. Elevating IT to focus on applications and service Invisible Infrastructure Addressing CIO Needs and Challenges resulting into Gains Always On Reduced complexity Increased Agility, Speed & Adaptability Optimized TCO Improved overall experience and SLA’s Become proactive Business Innovator Elevating IT to focus on applications and service “Designed for Change” Zero Touch No Silos No Limits Nutanix makes datacenter infrastructure invisible , delivering turnkey solutions simplifying every aspect of the datacenter infrastructure lifecycle - from buying and deploying, to managing, scaling and supporting.   With infrastructure that just works, datacenter professionals can focus driving real innovation and growing the business Nutanix solutions provide predictable performance at any scale, for any application. No more guesswork. With infrastructure that eliminates constraints, artificial IT borders and technology lock-in, businesses are freed from limitations of legacy infrastructure. $ Pay as you grow Future Proof

Need for Automation and Simplification Do You Want to Manage All the Parts or Just Drive the Car? In other aspects of life we simply want to get results. For example, when we want transportation we buy the car completely assembled and ready to run. We don’t buy the engine separately from the transmission separately from the wheels separately from the seats, then assemble it ourselves. Why do we buy IT infrastructure that way? The business simply wants IT services delivered. The business leaders don’t really see benefit in spending significant portions of the IT budget and people resources assembling pieces of infrastructure, tuning and managing it. The business leaders just want the applications to run.

Consumer world shows the future of Enterprise Consumption model Invisible infrastructure Application driven Simple to use User experience Choice

The Journey to Invisible Infrastructure Make Cloud Invisible Make Virtualization Invisible Nutanix pioneered the concept of Hyperconverged Infrastructure. In doing so, Nutanix first eliminated the complexity of separately managed storage. Then, Nutanix eliminated the complexity of separately managed virtualization. Next, Nutanix envisions eliminating the complexity of separately managed cloud. All this with the goal of making infrastructure invisible. Make Storage Invisible

The Nutanix Choice: Invisible Infrastructure … … Apps VMware, MSFT, Redhat ESXi Hyper-V KVM Virtual Infra NetApp, EMC Nutanix Brocade, Cisco Physical Infra HP, Dell, Cisco Qlogic, Emulex Purpose of the slide: 3 tier stack is complex. Focus should be on Applications, but before we get to the Application layer, we need to build the physical infrastructure which is complex involving several vendors. Nutanix simplifies datacenter infrastructure by integrating multiple components within the datacenter all the way up to the virtualization layer. Main Points: 1. Legacy infrastructure has complexity written all over it. Multiple layers that needs to be assembled and made to work 2. First you need networking – most enterprises have 10Gb ToR switches from companies Cisco/Arista 3. You then need servers – from vendors like HP/Dell/Cisco 4. You then buy expensive storage from NetApp, EMC 5.You then have specialized HBAs that sit on the server to improve performance 6. You then have dedicated Fibre channel connection and switches to connect the servers to storage 7. You then get to the virtualization layer where you have hypervisors and virtualization management layers from Vmware, Msft and Redhat. 8. While the focus should be on the Application, you have to go through all these layers before you start focusing on Applications. <Nutanix> With Nutanix you still use the 10 Gb ToR switches you have to interlink Nutanix nodes and for external communitcation But all complexity above is taken away with a single Nutanix appliance that can scale to as many nodes as you want In addition to using ESXi and Hyper-V customers also have a choice of going with the built in Acropolis Hypervisor giving them ultimate flexibility. This simplified infrastructure deployment significantly and helps businesses bring products to market a lot quickly than what is possible now.
