Do Now: : Use Distributive Property

Do Now: : Solving using Distributive Property and Combining like terms

Nuts for Vocabulary  Algebraic Expression: an expression that contains one or more variables and may also contain operation symbols, such as + or -.  Associative Property of Addition: When adding more than two numbers, the grouping of the numbers does not change the sum.  Associative Property of Multiplication: When multiplying more than two numbers, the grouping of the numbers does not change he product.  Constant: a specific number whose value does not change.  Distributive Property: Multiplying a number by the sum or difference is the same as multiplying by each number in the sum or difference and the adding and subtracting.  Exponents: The number that indicates how many times the base is used as a factor.  Like Terms : are terms whose variables (and their exponents such as the 2 in x 2 ) are the same.  Order of Operation: PEMDAS  Term: A part of an expression that is added or subtracted  Variable: a letter or symbol used to represent an unknown or unspecified number. The value of a variable may change.

Standards ■MGSE6.EE.1. Write and evaluate numerical expressions involving whole-number exponents. ■MGSE6.EE.2a. Write expressions that record operations with numbers and with letters standing for numbers ■MGSE6.EE.2b. Identify parts of an expression using mathematical terms (sum, term, product, factor, quotient, coefficient); view one or more parts of an expression as a single entity ■MGSE6.EE.2c. Evaluate expressions at specific values of their variables. Include expressions that arise from formulas used in real-world problems. Perform arithmetic operations, including those involving whole-number exponents, in the conventional order when there are no parentheses to specify a particular order (Order of Operations). ■MGSE6.EE.3. Apply the properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions ■MGSE6.EE.4. Identify when two expressions are equivalent (i.e., when the two expressions name the same number regardless of which value is substituted into them)

Unit Four: Expressions CAN YOU ANSWER EACH ESSENTIAL QUESTION FOR THIS UNIT? ■How are "standard form" and "exponential form" related? ■What is the purpose of an exponent? ■How are exponents used when evaluating expressions? ■How is the order of operations used to evaluate expressions? ■How are properties of numbers helpful in evaluating expressions? ■How are the properties (Identify, Associative and Commutative) used to evaluate, simplify and expand expressions? ■How is the Distributive Property used to evaluate, simplify and expand expressions? ■How can I tell if two expressions are equivalent?

Stations: Review You will have 8 minutes. in each station to review concepts for Unit 4. ■Station #1: Exponents ■Station #2: Order of Operations ■Station #3:Prime Factorization ■Station #4: Evaluating Expressions ■Station #5: Writing Expressions ■Station #6: Equivalent Expressions ■Station #7: Distributive Property and combining like terms I will be walking around assisting anyone that needs.
