Presentation transcript:

The TEXAS Higher Education Coordinating Board Satisfactory Academic Policy Academic Requirements for Students Awarded an Initial TEXAS Grant Prior to Sept. 1, 2005: Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least percent completion of attempted hours for the previous academic year Academic Requirements for Students Awarded an Initial TEXAS Grant on Sept. 1, 2005 or Later: Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least percent completion of attempted hours for the previous academic year Complete at least 24 semester credit hours

Calculation of GPA Your Cumulative GPA is calculated using all coursework attempted (except repeated courses) Your Current GPA is calculated using only coursework attempted with in a specific semester

Grading System A Excellent 4 grade points B Good 3 grade points C Satisfactory 2 grade points D Below Average 1 grade point F Failure 0 grade points

Grading System Continued The following grades are not considered in calculating GPA or attempted hours: P Passing NC No credit NP No pass DR Course dropped IP In progress DP Dropped Passing I Incomplete W Withdrawal

Grading System Continued… Considered as an “F” for calculating GPA: WFWithdrawal Failing DFDropped Failing

Repeated Courses When an undergraduate course is repeated only the last grade and hours attempted are used to calculate the GPA: Fall ’06Math 1340 (C) Spring ’07Math 1340 (D) Make sure you will get a better grade!

GPA Calculation Spring ’07 CourseGrad Hrs Pts Earned Eng 1301 C 3 x 2 = 6 Hist 2314 B 3 x 3 = 9 Math 1340 D 3 x 1 = 3 Chem 1301 F 3 x 0 = Total grade points 18 / total hours 12 = 1.5 GPA

Overall (Cumulative) GPA at the end of Spring 06 Attempted Hours 78 (Cum AHRS) + 12 (Spring’06) = 90 Grade points 207 (Cum GPTS) + 18 (spring’06) = pts /90 hrs = 2.50 overall GPA

TEXAS Grant Requirements Remember for TX Grant a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher is required  At the end of fall semester, use your transcript and project what grades you need to make for Spring. Pay attention to scheduling of classes.  If you do not meet the cumulative 2.5 GPA, attend summer school to work on it.

75% Completion Rate If you use your transcript you will divide AHRS by OHRS Example: AHRS/OHRS = Completion Rate 9/12 =.75 = 75% Note: The 75% Completion Rate has to be for Fall 2006/Spring 2007 (Fall + Spring AHRS) /(Fall + Spring OHRS)

Consequences of Not Meeting the Requirements If you fail to complete 75% and 24 hours by the end of Summer II, you lose your eligibility for an entire year. If you fail to meet the cumulative GPA of 2.5, you are out of the program until you raise your GPA. Progress reviewed at end of each semester.
