PARTNERING FOR SCHOOL SUCCESS PINELLAS CENTRAL ELEMENTARY

THERE ARE SIX FACTORS THAT INCREASE SCHOOL SUCCESS … EXPECTATIONS STRUCTURE LEARNING SUPPORT RELATIONSHIPS MODELING

FACTORS FOR SCHOOL SUCCESS EXPECTATION – CHILDREN NEED CLEAR AND ACHIEVABLE EXPECTATIONS TO SUCCEED IN SCHOOL WHAT YOU CAN DO… CLEARLY STATE OBJECTIVES GIVE YOUR CHILD SPECIFIC GOALS AND STANDARDS FOR YOUR DESIRED BEHAVIOR AND PERFORMANCE OUTCOMES DISCUSS EXPECTATIONS GIVE CONSEQUENCES FOR NOT MEETING EXPECTATIONS.

SCHOOL SUCCESS STRUCTURE – WHEN CHILDREN UNDERSTAND THEIR SCHEDULE OF DAILY ACTIVITIES, DIRECTION FOR SCHOOLWORK, AND RULES FOR BEHAVIOR, THEY DO BETTER IN AND OUT OF SCHOOL. WHAT YOU CAN DO… HELP YOUR CHILD GET ORGANIZED GIVE LOGICAL CONSEQUENCES RATHER THAN PUNISHMENT

SCHOOL SUCCESS LEARNING – CHILDREN NEED A VARIETY OF LEARNING OPTIONS AT HOME, SCHOOL AND WITHIN THE COMMUNITY. WHAT YOU CAN DO… EXPOSE THEM TO VARIOUS TOOLS FOR LEARNING SUCH AS READING MATERIALS AND REAL LIFE MATH PROBLEMS. GIVE STUDENTS TIME TO PRACTICE AND MASTER SKILLS

SCHOOL SUCCESS SUPPORT – CHILDREN NEED FREQUENT VERBAL SUPPORT. WHAT YOU CAN DO… PRAISE YOUR CHILD OFTEN ON SCHOOL WORK, PROGRESS, AND EFFORTS. THIS INCREASES THEIR SELF-CONFIDENCE WHICH WILL HELP THEM TO BETTER IN SCHOOL.

SCHOOL SUCCESS RELATIONSHIPS- CHILDREN DO BEST IN ALL AREAS OF THEIR LIVES WHEN THEY HAVE A WARM, CARING AND ENCOURAGING ENVIRONMENT BOTH AT HOME AND AT SCHOOL. WHAT YOU CAN DO… SURROUND YOUR CHILD WITH CARING PEOPLE. MAINTAIN A RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR CHILD’S SCHOOL AND OTHER IMPORTANT SCHOOL EMPLOYEES THAT PLAY A ROLE IN YOUR CHILD’S LIFE.

SCHOOL SUCCESS MODELING – SET A GOOD EXAMPLE. WHEN PARENTS READ, STUDY, ASK QUESTIONS, TALK ABOUT EDUCATION, SET GOALS, AND GET INVOLVED IN THEIR CHILD’S SCHOOL, THEY ARE SETTING AN EXAMPLE. WHAT YOU CAN DO… REMEMBER…PARENTS, RELATIVES, TEACHERS, FRIENDS, NEIGHBORS, COACHES AND OTHER ADULTS SERVE AS ROLE MODELS FOR THEIR CHILDREN WHETHER OR NOT THEY ARE AWARE OF IT.

HELPING WITH HOMEWORK

WHAT THE NEW TEST LOOK LIKE Old Grade 5 Pierre is making an apple crumb pie using the items below. Apple crumb pie: 1/3 cup flour 4 cups of sliced apples 1/3 cup sugar 1/4 cup butter 1/2 cup raisins How much total sugar must Pierre use to make the pie crumb and filling? F. 7 ½ cup H. 3/4 cup G. 2/6 cup I. 2/3 cup New: Common core grade 5 Tito and Luis are stuffed with pizza. Tito ate one- fourth of a cheese pizza. Tito ate three-eights of a pepperoni pizza. Tito ate one-half of a mushroom pizza. Luis ate five-eights of a cheese pizza. Luis ate the other half of the mushroom pizza. All the pizzas were the same size. Tito says he ate more pizza than Luis did because Luis didn’t eat any pepperoni pizza. Luis says they each ate the same amount of pizza. Who is correct? Show all your mathematical thinking.

SUCCESSFUL PARENT CONFERENCES

CHECKLIST FOR PARENT CONFERENCES A PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCE IS A TIME WHEN IMPORTANT PEOPLE IN YOUR CHILD’S LIFE CAN TALK ABOUT HOW YOUR CHILD IS DOING IN SCHOOL. IT IS A CHANCE FOR YOU TO DEVELOP A RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR CHILD’S TEACHER, ASK QUESTIONS, AND DISCUSS WAYS THAT YOU CAN WORK TOGETHER TO ENSURE A GREAT SCHOOL YEAR.
