Activities of the Biology’s Department Studying Biodiversity A DAY AT THE ZOO

Former a water depot surrounded by gardens, today the Zoobotánico shows 200 different species of animals and more than 400 of plants. OUR ZOO, MORE THAN 55 YEARS OF HISTORY

Our zoo takes part in different animal breeding programs (EEP) in cooperation with other European zoos. WORKING WITH ENDANGERED SPECIES

Emilia (centre) and the 1st of Bachillerato´s students holding a leaflet of questions and activities to be filled in during our visit A WORKING DAY BEGINS

The easiest way to find your favourite animals while you walk next to the shrubs and trees along the paths. THE ZOO’S MAP

The red house that can be seen in the background is the old water depot, still in use. THE MAIN AVENUE

The students work in groups trying to find the right answer about animal habits, plant origins and so on. LOOKING FOR ANSWERS

At a certain level, it is important to know about the origin of plants and about their scientific names too. These plates help us doing our work. SCIENTIFIC NAMES

Two hippos swimming. Top right the plate that shows different information about them. MORNING BATH

Working on the leaflet. No doubt this strange and scarce tiger has become one of the zoo’s symbols. THE WHITE TIGER

Some animals are dangerous, like this cassowary (centre). Good to know, itsn’t it? WHAT A BIRD !!

This picture shows the differences between males and females of a wild goat from the North of the Sahara. The small photo informs about this animal’s sponsor. MALES AND FEMALES

This poster is about nocturnal birds of prey of the Iberian peninsula. On the left, an impressive bird: a Lammergeier. This bearded vulture is being reintoduced into the wild as part of a programme with our zoo’s cooperation. OWLS AND RELATIVES

Identifying these kind of plants it’s not an easy job since they are rather similar. Fortunately the plates can help us. IDENTIFYING CACTUSES

The breeding of the Iberian lynx is one of the most important programs our zoo takes part in. We must bear in mind that the Spanish lynx is the most endangered cat species in the world. SAVE THE LYNX

Emilia (left) & José (centre) with some students. They seem to have spent a nice day. This is the end of our visit. Bye. WELL DONE!!
