Kick  Kick boxing or kickboxing is a combat sport that combines kicking techniques typical of the oriental martial arts and punches of boxing.

History  The term "kickboxing" was invented in Japan during the 1960s.  They decided to eliminate the elbows and knees.  They wore shorts as in boxing and "kick boxing“ was born.

 In Japan, in 1993, a tournament called K-1 was organized, where "K" stands for Karate, Kempo and Kickboxing. In this tournament, the rules are those of kickboxing, but also knees can be used.

 The intent was to put on the same ring athletes with different martial arts and fighting sports with rules which allowed them to match up.

 The K-1 became the most important tournament in the world. The term "K- 1" has now taken on the meaning of a combat sport in its own right, the world's best athletes, meet in Tokyo for the final. The rules of the tournament are called K-1 Style

 In kickboxing the fighters fight on the box ring or on the tatami. The standard measurements are 6 metres by 6 o 8 metres by 8.

Participants are required to wear specific clothes boxing gloves shin pads mouthguard protective kickboots groin guard for males and females chest protection for female boxers

techniques The techniques used in kickboxing are:  Jab: straight shot stretching your arm forwards, to hit the face or body of the opponent.

 Hook - Punch landed keeping the arm bent, like a hook, turning the shoulder and waist without losing sight of the opponent.

 Uppercut: striking upwards, usually to hit the opponent's chin, although it may also be directed to the torso or abdomen.

Kicking techniques The basic kick techniques used in kickboxing are :  front kick : bringing the leg to the chest and then stretching it forward, to strike with the forefoot, or more rarely, the heel.

 Side kick : similar to the front kick but striking from the side, rotating the support leg by 45 degrees and going to hit each other using the side of the foot.

 Roundhouse kick: striking by moving the leg with a circular trajectory, hitting with the shin. It is accomplished by twisting the whole body, starting from the supporting foot.
