Test Taking Skills Preparing for the Test The Test Post Test
Preparing for the Test Pay attention in class Budget your time so you can study Study a little each night Go to review sessions, take notes and ask questions
Preparing for Test (cont.) Ask instructor to emphasize what’s on the test Get sleep before the test 3-8 hours at least Main Ideas and Information should be on one sheet so it can be easily reviewed. Go over anything from class (notes, HW, review material, etc.)
Escaping Test Anxiety Be well prepared Chew gum to relieve anxiety (if allowed) Do simple questions to build your confidence Stay relaxed Control your breathing Maintain a positive attitude
Test Day! Set your alarm and a backup alarm Eat breakfast It helps you focus Gives you energy Arrive at least 5 minutes early Review your information Go to the bathroom before test
Taking the Test Bring: 2 pencils an eraser calculator if needed Wear a watch so you can pace yourself Do the easiest problems first Do the problems worth the most points Skip something if you don’t know it to return later
Taking the Test (Cont.) Read any and all directions carefully Ask instructor if you question something on the test Write legibly and neatly Look over test if you finish early to check for mistakes
Post Test Make sure there are no grading mistakes Understand what you got wrong Take notes if teacher reviews the exam answers Save the test for study prep for future tests in that class
Study Skills Review information as soon as it’s given to you Have all available study materials Don’t study after your normal bed-time Take frequent breaks Space out your studying Do not cram!
