 Math  Be able to read and write numbers 1-10  Compare numbers between 1-10 telling which is more/less.  Be able to tell one more when given a number  Look at different arrangements and tell what number is shown  Reading and Writing  Be able to identify the characters and setting of a story  Demonstrate and understand of concepts of print. (PC)  Use the pattern of a book to continue reading the book in pattern. (RB)  Using the pictures in a book to tell what is going on in the story  Re-tell a story by telling the beginning, middle, and end  Drawing a picture with characters, setting, and labels  Tell a story about something they have done.

 Reading: Level D book with comprehension. This is a book with easy content, familiar themes and ideas, some sentence with 6 words, word meanings are illustrated through the pictures, and many sight words.  Writing: Write several sentences on a topic, using invented spelling and sight words spelled correctly.  Math:  Count to 100 by 10s and 1s  Read and write numbers to 20  Compare numbers and sets to determine more/fewer within 20  Add and subtract to 10 with fluency  Identify 2D and 3D shapes  Understand teen numbers as ten and some more.

 DI: Phonics based reading instruction.  Every morning at 7:35.  Learning letter sounds  Blending sounds to read words

 Homework Journal The orange homework journals are a good way to practice the skills we are working on at school. These are designed for you to choose the activities you would like to work on. They are due at the end of each week. We check them to see how many activities you have completed. Journals are returned on Mondays.  Sight Words Sight words are very important for your child this year. In order for your child to begin reading, they will need to memorize many words. The words that are coming home each week in your child’s homework folder are words on the Kindergarten sight word lists.  Reading with the Principal: When a child can read all of the words on the first word list, he or she can read these to a principal. We will send more information about this.

 What to expect 1. Looking at your child’s quarter one progress 2.Showing you examples of your child’s work 3. Time for you to ask any questions

 It is important that your child attend school as often as possible.  Absences: Make sure you send a note explaining an absence.  Tardies: Your child is tardy if he or she is not in the classroom at 7:30.  Early Check-outs: When combined with tardies can cause your child to be assigned make-up time after school.  Make-up time.
