Everything you need to know about….

Why you should use Remind in your classroom… Remind helps teachers reach students and parents anytime/anywhere. It is SAFE, effective, and easy to use. Remind helps teachers fulfill the communication requirements created through the Ohio Teacher Evaluation System. Ft2BMNnQ

I. Communication is SAFE II. Benefits of effective communication between teacher and students/parents III. OTES requires communication records IV. Getting started with REMIND V. Remind and how it works

I. SAFE Communication O Personal contact information is kept private O There is no exchange of personal information between teacher, students and parents O Students/Parents subscribe to teacher’s class by using a class code, when they subscribe they are identified by their full name in the teachers subscriber list. O Subscribers are opted in and can be opted out at any time

Reminder – What to avoid O Profanity O Nudity or sexually suggestive content O Pretending to be someone else O Spamming subscribers O Threatening harm to self or others O Using Remind for commercial purposes O ****Remind is monitored, accounts containing inappropriate content may be deactivated and closed

II. Benefits of effective communication between teacher and students/parents O Educators report a huge growth in enthusiasm and involvement from families as a result of using Remind O 40% increase in parent engagement at home O 25% increase in parent engagement at school O Remind lets parents ask specific follow-up questions about the days lessons which can lead to enriched conversations at home. O Students are more motivated and are now asking their parents what they have heard from their Teacher via Remind

III. OTES requires communication records O Collaboration and Communication are a key area in the current OTES system O Communication tool for parents and students O Maintains a record of communications so that you can provide proof for OTES O Collaboration tool that can be used to team work with fellow teachers both in current school and other districts

IV. Getting started with REMIND The idea of Remind was developed by Brett Kopf who started the company while he was an Agricultual Economics major at Michigan State University. You can read all about it at /the-teaching-tool-topping-the-app- store Today there are over one million teachers using remind and over 17 million parents.

Step One: Download the Remind app to your phone

Step Two: Create an account

Step Three: Read the Terms of Service

Step Four: Set up your classes

Step Five: Invite your parents/students Send home a letter to students In-class instructions have your students text you in class Send Invitations to those in your contacts – can send through or through text message Share a link to the class via or text messaging or put online

Northeastern FFA 1480 Bowman Road Springfield, Ohio Advisors: Jeannie Anders Christy Wilbur Dear FFA Parent: One of our school year goals is to communicate better and more frequently with our FFA parents. To assist in achieving this objective, I would like to start using an application called Remind. I am also using Remind to communicate with students about class work, tests, assignments and FFA activities related to their applicable class. What is Remind? Remind provides a free, safe, and easy way for me to communicate with parents outside the classroom. I can use Remind to send messages directly to your phone or account regarding: upcoming FFA activities field trip scheduling changes upcoming home SAE visits When creating an account, you provide your name, address, date of birth and cell phone number. Remind does not rent or sell any personal data; there are no ads and personal phone numbers shared. Personal contact information is kept private between teachers, students, and parents. All messages are recorded and accessible by participants For the student class groups, your child will be able to receive Announcements from me. Announcements are one-way messages I send to the entire class. Your child can choose to receive Announcements via text message, push notifications, or . You will find on the back side of this letter directions to join the Northeastern FFA Parent group. I often send home letters and dates with students and find that much information does not make it to a parent/guardian. My hope is that Remind will help bridge that gap. Of course, this is not mandatory for anyone to join. If you prefer to not participate, I understand. So that I know this letter and instructions did make it home I am kindly requesting that one parent or guardian please sign below and the student return to me for acknowledgement. I am hoping this is yet another tool to better communicate with you on our many FFA activities and events. Sincerely yours, Jeannie Anders Parent/Guardian Signature: ____________________________________________________________________________
