L’Anse Creuse Middle School-South 7 th / 8 th Grade Football 2013 Season Welcome to our Parent Information Night! Please take a copy of our contract and season schedule from the front table if you did not already receive one. Also, if you’re interested in volunteering for our Welcome Back Dance on Friday, September 27 th from 3:00-4:30, please sign up on the front table. 8 th Grade Coaches: Jason Paternoster and Brian McDonald 7 th Grade Coaches: Mark Bianchini and Ron Woltmann Athletic Director: Mark Wojciechowicz

Practice  Everyday after school from 3-5pm with the exception of Wednesdays in which 8 th grade will not practice and 7 th grade will practice from 2-4pm.  Please have a ride here at the school to pick up your student athlete at the end of practice.  If you know that your student athlete will miss practice, please one of the coaches as soon as possible.

Games  All games are played on Tuesdays.  7 th Grade game begins promptly at 3:30  8 th Grade plays immediately following the 7 th grade (usually around 4:30)  Maps to away games are posted on our website under our Athletic Department link.  Busses will return all student athletes to school following the game unless they are signed out by a parent at the field prior to departure. Please have someone here at the school to pick up your student athlete when the bus drops them off at school. See game schedule for more information.

Playing Time  Every student athlete will play at least 2 plays per half (4 total per game)  Playing time is different for each individual player as we are trying to be competitive, while having fun and teaching the basics of the game.  Reasons for decreased playing time or not playing in a game:  Size Issues  Injury  Absence from Practice  Eligibility (Behavior/Grades in the Classroom)  “Dogging it” During Practice  Game Situations

Play to Participate  Directions were sent home earlier with the contract and practice schedule.  If you need a computer to fill out the paper work, there will be one available in the office between the hours of 8:00am-3:30pm.  Price is $75/sport ($42 if you’re part of the free/reduced lunch program). All payments must be done by use of PaySchools.  All Play to Participate Forms and Money is Due by Monday, September 16 th, please go to for more information and directions.

Eligibility  We closely monitor the grades and citizenship of each student athlete during the season. We constantly preach that school comes first!  All student athletes must maintain a certain level of achievement during the season (NO failing grades!). If they do not, they may find themselves to be ineligible to play in that weeks game.  If a student/athlete is ineligible, they are required to go to study hours after school instead of practice one day of the week and improve their grade(s) in order to become eligible again.

Concussions  Included in your packet is some information about Concussions.  This is a rising issue in all sports, but particularly football since it is a contact sport.  Please read the information we provided for you about concussions on recognizing the signs and symptoms of a concussions and how to prevent it.  Please know that as coaches we have been trained on recognizing the signs of a concussion and we will not hesitate to sit a student athlete out of a practice or game if we think they have experienced a concussion.

Coach’s Expectations  Our goals at the middle school level are:  School Comes First!  Emphasis on Fun  Focus on Basic Skills, Sportsmanship, and Team Play  Inclusiveness (Everyone Gets a Chance to Play)

Thank you for coming! REMINDERS!!!  Team T-shirt Information Form and Money is Due by Friday, September 6  Emergency Contact Information Form is Due by Friday, September 6  Play to Participate Form and Money is Due by Monday, September 16 th.  Welcome Back Dance sponsored by MSS Football is Friday, September 27 th from 3-4:30…sign up if you’re able to volunteer your time.
