HPPAE Rotation Examples

Binghamton University, State University of New York Primary Placement Monthly Training Seminar Mini- Rotations with MSW

Binghamton University, State University of New York  Setting: Suburban & rural  Students: Binghamton University’s HPPAE includes opportunities for both 1st and 2nd Year MSW students. The program enrolls a minimum of 6 students per year, and has carried as many as 8 in an academic year.  Model: Centralized placement with mini-rotations, monthly group supervision paired with seminars  Description: Students remain in a primary field site two days per week. The primary placements are in aging service agencies that do not have an MSW supervisor on staff. Weekly supervision is provided by a faculty field supervisor. Students’ participate in monthly group supervision paired with a seminar related to select topics in aging. Students also complete a series of mini-rotations with MSWs providing aging-related services; the mini-rotations are either half- or full-day experiences which expose them to the continuum of geriatric services.

 Setting: Hospital: Comprehensive Medical/Health Care  Students: A year long (2 semesters) program that targets MSW students. Students are recruited based on interest and the number of available placements.  Model: Concurrent, sequential, and agency based  Description: 1 year placement in which students remain at primary field sites and rotate to various division of comprehensive care. Students have 4-week intensive practicum in each unit and weekly (1.5/hr.) In-Service trainings that bridge the learning across the continuum of care.
