A beautiful city in the south of Italy…

Ragusa

RAGUSA

It’s divided into: Ragusa Ibla the oldest city. It’s in the UNESCO heritage list and it is famous for its baroque monuments.

Upper Ragusa, or Ragusa Superiore, the new city. It’s capital of the province with the same name.

Ragusa has about inhabitants. It is the chief town of one of the nine provinces of Sicily.

Our tYpical dishes

The most famous product, that has been produced for centuries, is Caciocavallo ragusano, a tasty cheese formed into a parallelepiped shape, made from Modica cow’s milk. This cheese is used for antipasti and desserts, and can be fresh and sweet or ripe and spicy.

SWEETS Cannoli, a wafer of fried dough, the “scorza”, and a filling made of ricotta; and biancomangiare, based on almonds.

PIES A typical menu served by one of the several restaurants in Ragusa may start off with a typical antipasto dish such as scaccia ragusana: a Tasty focaccia pizza bread filled with tomato sauce and chili pepper, and grated caciocavallo cheese.

The Modican Chocolate is one of the best appreciated products of the Sicilian pastry. It is prepared according to a traditional recipe dating back to the Aztec ancient civilization and handed down to us by the Spaniards. Upon entering a traditional "dolceria modicana", you'll smell delicious flavours coming from the genuine ingredients used in the chocolate-making, such as bitter cocoa paste, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon and cocoa butter. The resulting graininess from the sugar crystals is what gives this chocolate its distinctive quality.
