EuCARD-2 is co-funded by the partners and the European Commission under Capacities 7th Framework Programme, Grant Agreement Knowledge and Technology Transfer within EuCARD2 WP2 – Catalysing Innovation EuCARD-2 Project - 3rd Annual Meeting - 26 to 28 April Valletta, Malta Dr Vlad Skarda, STFC
WP2 – Catalysing Innovation Why Knowledge and Technology Transfer (KTT) and workshops with industry Increasing role of innovation - seen as a strategic driver of the economic development - impact Knowledge exchange activities help to form the links between the researchers and their institutes with industrial companies, through which the technical and scientific expertise is exchanged and ultimately transferred to industry. Research and Development (R&D), collaboration efforts to produce product and novel process There are already a number of R&D industrial collaborations within the EuCARD2 Workshops with industry – to widen the scope of exploitation
Activities within WP2 Task 1: Coordination and Communication – Advertising and collaborating where appropriate with other WPs on networking events with industry Task 2: Transferring Innovation to Society (in particular Industry), grouped in two categories: – Technology scouting: interviews performed with the WPs to identify key technological areas within EuCARD-2 that may become future objects of dissemination activities and ‘EuCARD 2 meets the industry’ events – Technology promotion: actively marketing the technologies from EuCARD 2 with higher maturity rate to industry and to other research organisations outside the consortium
Dissemination Existing KT networks are used to disseminate relevant results and information during events with industry Existing knowledge transfer networks - used to promote the workshop with industry. EEN - The Enterprise Europe Network, helping small business to make the most of the European marketplace ENET - CERN’s network of KTOs in the Member States HEPTech - Leading HEP technologies for industry Technology Transfer opportunities STFC Innovations Club (~1500 academic and industrial members) EuCARD-2 community Targeted marketing - direct marketing and invitations Aim is to collaborate with these networks rather than duplicate efforts in dissemination of the results

Planned initiative EuCARD-2 meets Industry event #3 to be organised jointly between WP2 (STFC and CERN) and other WP around month 42 (Nov. 16) of the EuCARD-2 project Planned workshop / 3 choices: Title of eventDateVenueWP High Efficiency KlystronsSummer 2017??3/12/2 Low energy electron beams for industrial and environmental applications Early Dec Warsaw, Dresden Huddersfield Oxford or Daresbury CERN, Geneva 4/2 Advanced Low Emittance Ring Technology 16 Sept. 16Elettra, Trieste6/2
Possible 3rd workshop with industry Timescales (Nov Jan. 2017) WP3/WP12 - High Efficiency Klystrons Already good collaboration with industry - High Efficiency International Klystron Activity (HEIKA) Industries involved include Thales (France), ScandiNova (Sweden) and VDBT (Russia). Several US/Japanese companies are on-board and other companies might follow Meetings held in January this year (CLIC Workshop at CERN) and another one planned for summer 2017 Already covered well, possible meeting date too late for WP2?
Possible 3rd workshop with industry Timescales (Nov Jan. 2017) WP4 - Low energy electron beams for industrial and environmental applications There are more than of these in operation Developments are required at the higher energies (5- 10 MeV) and for the new environmental applications. Industrial – Food and agriculture, sterilization, materials processing and modification Environmental – Flue gas treatment (SOx, NOx,VOC), wastewater, biological sludge
Possible 3rd workshop with industry Timescales (Nov Jan. 2017) WP6 – Advanced Low Emittance Ring Technology The workshop would deal with: state of the art technology of magnets, vacuum and power supplies attract system users and component manufacturers foster the collaboration (R&D) links with industry have talks by WP6 and the industry WP6 have already earmarked dates – September 2016 at Elettra - ALERT2016 – Workshop with industry would be scheduled for 16 Sept. 2016
