Presentation transcript:

Category: Sports News Purpose: To show Oldham’s victory over Liverpool in football Image Content: The photograph is mainly focused in on the Oldham player celebrating right inform of the Liverpool players which are out of focus but still visible, this is due to the slow shutter speed of the picture which means that not a lot of the picture is blurred out but still has a focus. The photograph is set out landscape and has a low key colour scheme, this is because of the time of day but the pitch and players are still illuminated by ambient lighting. Also, the lime green boards in the background help distinguish the players and improves the detail as nothing else in the picture is anything like the background. The picture follows the Rule of thirds, you can see this as the Oldham players are positioned at the centre of the picture at the eye resting point and the Liverpool players are all on the outside, also all the players faces are positioned towards the top of the picture despite how close some players are than others. Meaning: The meaning of this photograph is to tell the story of the shock defeat Liverpool suffered against Oldham

Category: News and events. Purpose: To inform and display the aftermath of the night club shootings. Image content: The photograph has no main focus due to its broad depth of field, this means that all of the photograph is in focus and there is no main part of the picture but there is an eye resting point located in the centre of the photo, in my opinion the open coffin is the eye resting point because of how it stands out because of its difference in colour compared to the other parts of the photo. The area in which the photo is taken is lit up by ambient lighting, it seams like it’s a very bright light overlooking the coffins with the edges of the picture not being effected as much by the light as the centre. This photograph is taken with a fast shutter speed, like a freeze frame which is exactly what is needed for news pictures like this one, it makes it so the camera captures the moment, it’s a simple way to take a picture but sometimes relevant. The pictures also follows the rule of thirds technique, the coffins are mainly positioned down the centre of the picture with three coffins in the exact centre rectangle and one at the bottom centre. The people in this picture are on the outside of picture which shows they are less important than the coffins which tells the story. Also I would like to point out the body language of the people in the picture, they seem very relaxed which may suggest that this has happened before, like its normal for this to happen for them, it’s a very simple things that says a lot about the story. Meaning: The meaning of the picture is how things like shootings happen and it’s a very sad and unfortunate event but for some people it doesn’t effect them as much if it happens more than once, there is no evidence to suggest this but from what I can tell its just a normal day at work for these people. This may make the audience confused and sympathetic towards the families of the victims and confused of how the people in the picture look so relaxed and unaffected.

Category: News and informative Purpose: To display the disastrous floods that happened in the new Orleans. Image content: The photograph features an eye resting point located towards the right side of the photograph, the two people hugging after the horrific events of the tsunami. The photographer used a fast shutter speed to capture this image, I can tell because of how the photo is a freeze frame, this technique is best for this kind of photo, it’s the more simple way to capture a moment with a camera and although it was taken in a single second it still tells a massive story despite the simplicity of the photograph. With a landscape picture, there is usually a more important background and this picture is no acceptation, the background is extremely important to the story as is displays the horror and the destruction of the tsunami, it shows the clear sky and the calm water as it has set and made its home around the new Orleans. The lighting of this picture is natural lighting which means it has no lights made by man behind the camera or around the main focus of the photograph, this yet again is very fitting as it’s a simple freeze-frame in the moment picture that is meant to tell a huge story, any editing or unneeded lighting may ruin that concept. The photograph follows the rule of thirds, on the left hand side we see the trees being drowned by the dirty water, we can also see a reflection of the trees in the water as it is very calm. In the middle its just the houses and a massive surface area of water with no ripples or anything poking out of it which tells me that the water has completely drowned the middle of the street. And on the right side we see two people stranded on a house cuddling, this may suggest that there's no where to go and that have to star all over again. Meaning: The meaning of the photograph is to display the horrors of the new Orleans tsunami and to show how after this horrific event the people there are stranded with nothing left and no guidance on how to fix this, we only see two people in this photograph which suggest loneliness in such a desperate time of need.

Category: news, fashion Purpose: To capture and display the shot of celebrities Image Content: Firstly the picture is taken with a fast shutter speed, this fits this type of picture because there is no need for anything more than a single snapshot to capture the moment. The picture has a broad depth of field, this picture can be deceived as a narrow depth of field, this is wrong as it is just the ambient lighting being projected from the cameras. This photograph does not follow the rule of thirds the framing of it is central as the two celebrities are located in the centre of the photo. The picture is taken portrait and has no tilts or angles featured. The eye Resting point in the photograph is located in between both of the girls in the picture which opens the option of looking at ether one. One of the girls bag is found in the centre of the snapshot. Meaning: To show celebrities have real lives and are real normal people.

Category: News report, media Purpose: Image Content: The shutter speed of these photos have been taken on a fast setting, this is very fitting for this type of image as all it needs is a single snapshot to tell the story. The depth of field is broad as all of the photograph is in focus. The lighting has an important role in the picture as the picture is brightened up by the ambient lighting caused by the cameras flash, both of the images follow this. the main part of both photographs (the celebrities) are both located in the dead centre of the image making the framing central. This also means that the eye resting point is focused on the celebrities, one photo is focused on the celebrities face and the other of the celebrity turning away. Meaning: to try and show that celebrities are real people with real stories

Category: Fashion, Modelling Purpose: to advertise a products in a beautiful and eye catching way Image Content: The shutter speed appears to be fast but the background appears to be taken at a slow shutter speed, I believe this to be true as the water looks like a very light mist which is the exact effect water takes when taken at slow shutter speeds. The picture is taken landscape and the lighting in the.mage appears to be natural lighting as the picture is taken outside, I feel like the lighting works well with its narrow depth of field it has with the camera being focused on the girl. I think it works well because the water appears to be reflecting light but is not all in focus. The photograph follows the very common rule of thirds as the girl is positioned on the left side and the waters edge on the right, despite this the eye resting point is where the girls hands meet together. I do not see any leading lines in this photograph/

Category: modelling Purpose: To show a product in this case clothes that is being modelled to advertise the product to people who may be interested. Image Content: in this image the, the main focus is on the model and nothing else which gives it a narrow depth of field with a fast shutter which is very appropriate here as its just a simple image that needs nothing but a simple freeze-frame picture to advertise the product. this image is taken as portrait which is relevant because the main part of the picture (the model) is a tall figure so the portrait layout can capture all that is needed for the model. Further more the image has no background so nothing can take the attention away from the main part of the photograph. The picture follows a central layout regarding the positioning of the main part of the picture, once again this is appropriate because of the simplicity of the photograph, I like this method because there is no need for any fancy camera techniques, all is needed is the main part in the centre. Meaning: the meaning of the photograph is how smart the model looks whilst wearing this product, it makes you think what you would look like in the product to which attracts buyers for the company.

Category: Fashion, product placement Purpose: to raise awareness and to promote a product using a celebrity. Image Content: the shutter speed of this picture is taken fast because of the simple needs of a freeze-frame needed to advertise this product. The depth of field appears to be narrow as the light in the background is blurred and the main focus of the picture is the models face. The framing is central which is easy to identify as the celebrity is positioned in the centre of the photograph and the picture is taken very close up to the camera, you may count the logo in the bottom right corner to be set out in rule of thirds but not all of the picture follows this rule therefore is central. The lighting appears to be ambient but it is hard to tell but pictures like these are usually taken in a studio of some sort with big man made flash lights with light repelling screens at the back. Meaning: The meaning is to show the audience the product or article is being based off of the famous celebrity Jennifer Hudson.

Category: Raising awareness Purpose: To raise awareness about the dangers of germs an how many there are on everyday objects. Image Content: In this image we see the that a narrow depth of field is being used to focus in on the fingers that represent germs from the past people who have touched the pay phone, the main focus is on the fingers with central framing and a fast shutter speed, the photographer has clear intentions of highlighting the main part of the image. the lighting of this picture is a very difficult things to tell, mainly because of the framing and angle of the picture its hard to say whether it is taken indoors out outdoors, but I think it is natural lighting as the majority of pay phones are located outside therefore the lighting must be natural. Meaning: The meaning of the photograph is to raise awareness of the quantity and the danger of germs in public, the pictures meaning is to show germs in a different and unique way.
