Is Mynydd Illtyd a threatened environment?

The National Park Visitor Centre (The Mountain Centre) In 2010/11 there were 142,167 visitors to the Centre. It is located right next to Mynydd Illtyd

Biodiversity Illtyd pools are a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI)

Biodiversity 357 different species of plants and animals have been recorded on Mynydd Illtyd Brown hare Small Pearl Bordered Fritillary Ragged Robin

Biodiversity Mynydd Illtyd has been a nationally important habitat for ground nesting birds. In the 1990s there were curlews and 10 pairs of breeding lapwing. By 2003 there were none Lapwing Curlew

Raised Bog at Traeth Mawr on Mynydd Illtyd The raised bog is a rare form of bog and Traeth Mawr is one of the best sites in Wales for certain bog plants.

Raised bog at Traeth Mawr The bog is a carbon store. If it dries out, is overgrazed or eroded it could release this carbon into the atmosphere which will contribute to climate change.

Archaeology Mynydd Illtyd has a wide variety of historic sites such as Iron Age Hill forts and parts of a Roman Road. Some of the sites are among the best examples in the National Park Standing stone -approximately 4000 years old

Agriculture Mynydd Illtyd is owned by the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority but it is common land. This means that neighbouring farmers (called Commoners) have certain rights to use the land.

Agriculture Less than half of the 34 Commoners use the Common regularly. Mostly it is used for grazing sheep and cutting bracken for bedding.

Is Mynydd Illtyd a threatened environment? What do you think?
