3 Types of Expository to Explain Why Openings Vignette – A vignette is a short sketch or descriptive scene. It usually has a theme or an idea of its own that it wants to convey. The most important function of the vignette is its description of the scene or character. Sample: The matronly lady stood in front of the frozen food display analyzing the pictures on each carton of food. Patiently she waited for a friendly face to approach the frozen food case; then she would begin her charade. “Excuse me, sir, but I left my glasses at home. Could you help me read the ingredients on the carton?” The obliging, unsuspecting customer would read the carton, receive her words of gratitude, and continue on his way.
