ANDS Project aims 1.Research Data Management Plan and Policy 2.Review of ECU’s research data management practices 3.Data survey Select 12 shareable datasets with data accessible for re-use Provide metadata records to RDA 4.Training for researchers, staff and others

The Code  Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research  Responsible conduct of research –proper management of research data –retention of research data  Retaining research data important –may be all that remains at the end of the research project

Project positive outcomes  Information gathering about available data  Even if researchers can’t share data now it tunes them into the need  We are learning about research in different disciplines  Building staff skills in the institution  Building on work done by ANDS and other ANDS partners

Challenges, observations  Researchers are busy –What is the benefit of data management and data sharing –What's in it for me…  Research cultural change –Takes time  Not all data can be shared: Ethics, IP  Seeding the Commons Project and beyond

 Data needs to be organised..how?  RIF-CS schema  RIF-CS compliant datasets  Entered into RDA Metadata used
