Pronouns and Antecedents
The Antecedent The antecedent is the noun that the pronoun refers to. Example: After Marcus brushed his teeth, he went to bed.
Different Sentences The antecedent doesn’t have to be in the same sentence as the pronoun. Example: Phyliss was excited to get a new computer. It was a great gift.
Pronoun Agreement A pronoun must agree with the antecedent in both gender and number.
Examples Ramon has a new skateboard. He took it to the skate park. The girls bought new dresses. They wore them to the school dance.
