AS90737: Develop and communicate a solution to an engineering or technological design brief Sample 4 - Excellence

Commentary Sample 4-Excellence ( just into excellence grade area) There is good use of extensive annotation throughout the portfolio An extensive research phase that looks at designers, products and links to the students own design thinking later in the design process. The annotation alongside the Ergonomic data is an example of critical analysis where the student has critically analysed the ergonomic factors of the phone design. This piece sets out to examine the implications of alternative designs. There is evidence of critical analysis here, where the implications of alternative designs have been considered- under Pros and cons. The comments on the concept ideas are reflective and analytical and start to consider the implications of each idea ie critical analysis. Implications of alternative design are considered here ie holograms. The design annotation links back to the design principles as required by EN 7 at this level. The annotation continues to use critical analysis throughout the development stage ie the implications of alternative design ideas are considered and explored leading up to the solution. There is a good range of communication skills used to display the final solution, but the Orthographic drawing could be strengthened at this level. The evaluation shows some critical analysis and good use of design language/design principles links as per EN 7.
