The Acadians French speaking Catholic colonists who lived in the Canadian province of Acadia England gained control of Acadia The English & Acadians did not get along England worried about rebellion

Le Grand Dérangement “The Great Upheaval” The English call all the Acadians for a town meeting NOT a town meeting but a secret plot and English soldiers forced them on boats & deported them They lost everything! No one wanted them! Mostly uneducated farmers & trappers

The Acadians Come to Louisiana Acadians spent years in exile Spanish were trying to populate the new colony Acadians knew how to farm & trap so they would probably adjust well in Louisiana. Spanish offered to pay their way 1769 to 1785 almost 10,000 Acadians came to Louisiana Settled in SW Louisiana near Bayou Teche
