Supermarket  A supermarket is a large store, selling mainly food.  It is a self-service shop, having several aisles.  A supermarket has a larger size and a wider selection of goods than a traditional grocery store, but it is smaller than a hypermarket.  The supermarket usually offers fresh products, meat, dairy, baked goods, canned and packaged goods and a lot of non-food items such as household products, pharmacy products and goods for pets.  Most supermarkets also sell a lot of other products that are consumed regularly such as medicine, alcohol and clothes.

Supermarket  The traditional supermarket occupies a large floor space.  It is usually situated near a residential area in order to be convenient to consumers.  A supermarket has a wide selection of goods and relatively low prices.  Advantages include possibilities of parking and the convenience of shopping hours that last until evening or even 24 hours a day.

Supermarket  Supermarkets usually offer products at lower prices than smaller stores.  Customers usually use by shopping trolleys or baskets (self-service) and pay for the merchandise at the check desk.

Hypermarket

 Hypermarket is a very large self–service store that sells general merchandise and groceries combining a supermarket and a department stores.  Hypermarkets allow customers to satisfy all their daily shopping needs during one trip.  They have a larger shopping area, low prices.  Many hypermarkets are situated in the suburbs or out-of-town locations that can be reached easily by cars.

Can you answer the questions?  What is a supermarket?  What kinds of products does supermarket offer?  Where is usually supermarket situated?  What advantages does supermarket have?  What about the shopping hours?  What is a hypermarket?  What about the differences between a supermarket and a hypermarket?

 Work in pairs: Can you create a dialouge at a supermarket? You can choose your favourite department!
