Background There are programs of study and there are “Programs of Study”. What are we talking about here? Generic pathway with a single endpoint Specific education & career plans with multiple entrance/exit points

Purpose What are the problems we are trying to solve? Too few students have defined college and career goals Too few students are graduating from high school and obtaining postsecondary credentials  As a result, students are not prepared to be competitive in the workforce

Foundation What we already have going for us: CTE! CTE students are more engaged, perform better and graduate at higher rates. The average high school graduation rate for students concentrating in CTE programs is 93 percent, compared to an average national freshman graduation rate of 80 percent. More than 75 percent of secondary CTE concentrators pursued postsecondary education shortly after high school. Source:

Project History – Seize the Moment! In July 2011, ADE announced new requirements for all secondary and postsecondary recipients of Carl D. Perkins funds to form regional consortia to: (1)develop Programs of Study documenting opportunities for high school students to earn CTE Program specific college credit (2) assume the duty of collecting and reporting agreements between high school and college partners, formerly managed by Tech Prep

Project History Across the State, Consortia were formed based primarily on former Tech Prep partnerships: Secondary School Districts High Schools JTEDs (Joint Technical Education Districts) Community Colleges

THE BIG PICTURE

Project History/Action Plan 2011 – 2012 Western Maricopa and East Valley POS consortia worked collaboratively to pilot the Programs of Study Reporting System.

Project History/Action Plan The POS reporting system is now available statewide Continuous improvements made each year to improve consistency and accuracy of data reported

POS WEBSITE In addition to the need for a data collection/reporting system, we need an online presence to: Increase awareness and promote Programs of Study Provide convenient and consistent templates for marketing Programs of Study including brochures, posters, postcards, etc. Serve as a resource for relevant research (benefits of CTE, dual enrollment, etc.)
