2 What is Punch List Wikipedia A punch list is a document prepared near the end of a construction project listing work not conforming to contract specifications that the contractor must complete prior to final payment. The work may include incomplete or incorrect installations or incidental damage to existing finishes, material, and structures. When is Punch list generated. Usually at the time of substantial completion as referenced below. A201 – 2007General Conditions of the Contract for Construction 9.8 Substantial Completion When the Contractor considers that the work …is substantially complete, the Contractor shall prepare and submit to the Architect a comprehensive list of items to be completed or corrected prior to final payment… B Standard Form of Agreement Between Owner and Architect Section Project Completion The architect shall conduct inspections to determine the date or dates of substantial completion…. The architect will review with the owner all punch lists and provide status reports on the completion of same…

3 Punch list Best Practices Punch list is in addition to the list the Architect is expected to maintain during Construction Phase per B section – Evaluation of the Work: The Architect shall maintain a list of observed variances from the Contract Documents and identify corrective measures for Owner’s approval. Punch list Issued timely Seek and incorporate inputs from Facilities Operation and Interior Design Team Include the Commissioning Agent’s reports/logs Do not include any Wish List items Separate the “Day 2” items Update and close out completed items timely Completed items to be signed off by CA and clients
