VISUAL ARTS 2008 PRACTICAL ASSESSEMENT TASK (PAT) FINAL EXAMINATION AND MODERATION john cowan

Programme of Assessment 6 Tasks - term 1, 2, 3 – internally assessed by Teacher / HOD 100 marks = 25% of total final mark

SOURCEBOOK or WORKBOOK *PRACTICAL - CAN BE ANY SCALE / FORMAT - CAN BE A SERIES / NUMBER OF BOOKS - MUST HAVE: PAT RESEARCH OWN RESEARCH ADDITIONAL RESEARCH ALL WORKING SKETCHES / DRAWINGS - MUST BE INDEXED / MARKED WHERE TASK / PAT RESEARCH IS SITUATED

PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT TASK (PAT) 50 marks Comprises of a number of skill /content based lessons that address Assessment Standards (see SAG) at the beginning of each term. Such as Drawing / Painting / composition / content selection etc. - minor assessments should take place - e.g. 3 x ten-mark short projects/works - these can be done or placed in Source book / Visual Diary - assess with rubric (weeks 1, 2, 3) Lead to a final Practical project/s that will incorporate, extend and enhance these skills. Reminder to link to Visual Culture Studies - major assessment should take place - e.g. 1 x 30 mark larger project assess with rubric (weeks 4, 5, 6, 7) Total - 50 marks

Visual Culture Studies SELECT 6 THEMES (THAT YOU HAVE EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND RESOURCES) NOTE: A WESTERN ARTFORM / ARTIST MUST BE STUDIED FOR EACH THEME SELECTED. THESE SHOULD RELATE TO THE CONTEXT OF THE SCHOOL RESEARCH ESSAYS SET TOPIC/S FOR RESEARCH ESSAY/S FROM THEMES WORDS PER TERM (term 1, 2, 3) = Total of words Internally marked / moderated (SHOULD BE PART OFTERM THEORY-TASK) THE THEMES MUST DRIVE THE PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT TASKS I.E. BE THE CONTENT BASE/ TECHNICAL DIRECTION

SOURCEBOOK / JOURNAL THEORY COMPONENT THIS SHOULD BE STORED SEPERATELY FROM THE PRACTICAL SOURCEBOOK. Should collate all personal notes / Teacher hand outs/ written research for Essay and Tests /Examinations. **Can relate thematically to the practical tasks / PATs

Programme of Assessment - term 4 Examination Term Task 7 (Term 4) is examination programme

Exhibition of work from: PAT1 + PAT 3 + PAT 5 + Source book AND June Practical Exam (part of Task 4) minimum +- 5 pieces of work AND Final Practical Exam (+- 18 hours) = Total (min) - 6 pieces of work Learners may choose to exhibit works from Gr 11 - to add depth to exhibition NOTE: Tasks 1, 3 & 5 are called PATs 1, 3, & 5 Term 4 - Practical exhibition requirements

THE FINAL PRACTICAL EXAMINATION 2008

The Final Examination Paper should be received in the first Month of Term 3 (OR EARLIER). **Learners may begin the research component immediately. Teachers may contextualise the question to school environment. Time frame determined by project All exam work must be submitted to the school’s Examination Officer (Teacher) not later than 12h00 on the 20th October (i.e. practical exams must end by this date) Moderation of PATs and Final Examination will be directed by each Province - (same format as 2007). Term 4 (first 2 weeks of October) EACH SCHOOL will decide on the format e.g. 3 consecutive days: (3 x 6 = 18 hours) - discuss with school management

A teacher’s portfolio must be available at the marking / moderation venue. (see Visual Arts LPG ) The following must be included and indexed:-  All projects and briefs for PATs.  Marksheets for terms 1, 2, 3  All tests and memoranda.  June Examination and memorandum. The PATs and Final Examination Practical work must be exhibited at the marking venue (school) by the educator and candidates - the day before moderation commences. ALL work must be labeled / dated

PAT1 + PAT 3 + PAT 5 + Sourcebook AND June Practical Exam (part of Task 4) AND Final Practical Exam = pieces of work + exam These pieces of work + examination work MUST have an assessment tool displayed with each. The teacher will accompany either the Provincial Examiner/panel/moderator or the National moderator. The tool must therefore show:- Topic / theme Assessment standards Criteria with a grid showing learner’s marks Moderated marks & signature EXHIBITION

THEORY EXAMINATION FORMAT (WEDNESDAY 26 NOVEMBER : 14H H00) 10 QUESTIONS - EACH BASED ON ONE THEME FROM SUBJECT FRAMEWORK - SEE LPG. LEARNER MUST SELECT AND ANSWER 5 QUESTIONS EACH QUESTION HAS UNSEEN IMAGES THAT MUST BE DISCUSSED / REFERRED TO ACCORDING TO THE BRIEF. (YOU MUST HAVE COVERED 6 THEMES DURING TERM 1, 2, 3) - SEE LPG NOTE: A WESTERN ART FORM / ARTIST IS COMPULSORY FOR EACH THEME SELECTED.

QUESTIONS ARE TIERED /SCAFFOLDED TO ALLOW ACCESS TO ALL COGNITIVE LEVELS. I.E. TWO FORMATS 1. SHORT PARAGRAPH QUESTIONS LEADING ON TO A LONGER WRITTEN PIECE. 2. EXTENDED DISCUSSION ESSAY QUESTIONS. Expected answer length: written pages with approximate mark allocations: one paragraph/ half page = 5 one page (or more) = pages (or more = 20 REMEMBER - THEORY EXAMINATION IS WEIGHTED AT 100 MARKS OUT OF TOTAL OF 400 MARKS FOR THE YEAR. I.E. (ONE QUARTER OF FINAL MARK)
