EE 396: ACCESSORS….. Group Members: Allen Bui Ruthsenne Gagarin Erica Salvador

Overview of the project Objective: To create an accessor, a device that provides access for individuals who have limited abilities. This accessor will be a household utility controller that will allow the user to interact with common household appliances.

General Approach 1.Archimedes Hawaii: Invention Factory a.Mission: To develop and disseminate technologies that will have a positive impact on people regardless of their ability, needs, preferences, location and culture. b.Vision: Use technologies to solve accessibility and communication problems related to disability, aging, education, literacy, lack of infrastructure, and limited resources.

General discussion of your approach. 2.Millie a.Bio  Cerebral Palsy b.Needs  Independence c.Solution to Needs 3.Commercial Use

Challenges: Limitations of the User Components Needed Funding Limited skills needed to implement project. Scheduling

Solutions to Challenges: Limitations of the User –Utilize her abilities to communicate her household appliances. Components Needed –Mount –Switch –Display –Picaxe –X10 Remote (Wireless Communication) –Appliances Door, Lamp, TV, Emergency Signal

Solutions to Challenges cont: Funding –Components  Inventory  Approximate expenditure ≈ $500 Limited skills needed to implement project. –RESEARCH & ASK Questions! Scheduling –Commit to timeline and allocate extra time BEFORE the deadlines!!! –Communicate –Refer to Gantt Chart

Goals: Implement higher level of coding. Gain experience with available tools in Engineering. Be able to design and execute a product that can be used in a “real-world” setting.
