American World View of Cultural Diversity American Population is made up of people from many countries, many races and many cultural backgrounds The motto of Country: E. PLURIBUS UNUM

Importance of Cultural Diversity in Human History The entire of human race has been marked by transfers of Cultural advances from one group to another and from civilization to another. The historic sharing of Cultural advances, until they became the common inheritance of the human race, implied much more than cultural diversity. Cultural features exist to meet necessities and to forward the purposes of human life

Cultural Diversity is not static picture of differentness but a dynamic picture of competition in which what serves human purposes more effectively survives while what does not tends to decline or disappear There are many purposes common to peoples of all cultures (They want to live rather than to die)

Cultural Leadership China, Japan, West Countries Roman Empire Ottoman empire Cultural leadership has changed hands many times. The achievements have contributed to our well-being and opportunities today

Greek World View (Plato) There are two kinds of world Those are Ideal World and sensible World Ideal world is eternal, permanent, cannot be broken Sensible World is changeable, impermanent

Three concept of the world (Javanese World view) The world above (heaven) The world where human beings live The world below (the place of spirits and ghosts)

Discussion Americans lead the world in many areas such as technology, standard of living, medicine and education. Is it important that we always lead in these areas? How can diversity in workforce help us advance? The United States regularly exchanges scientists, business and industry leaders, and technology with countries all over the world. Do you think this is good idea or will this just help other countries get ahead of the United States?

In America, the management of workers by “assimilation into workforce “ is being replaced by the “integration of diversity”. How would the author (you) explain this shift in approach? The author stated that “What serves human purposes more effectively survives, while what does not, tends to decline or disappear.” What aspects of your culture do you think may decline? What aspect of business culture may decline

List things that we have now or the ways things are done now that differ markedly from your parents’ generation. It has been said that English is the international language of business,; Italian is the international language of music; French is the international language of diplomacy. What explanation would you give for this? Might this change?
