City of Oslo Demonstrator Transnational Partner Meeting Rotterdam, October 2014

Freight Electric Vehicles in Urban Europe Background Main partners: BRING – Logistics operator. SINTEF – Research and statistics collector. Oslo Municipality – Demo manager, data collection manager. Main activities in Oslo: Benchmark EFV logistics against alternative fuels and hybrid vehicles (compare performance). Test EFVs in low temperature operation. Establish two fast chargers which will be reserved for the FREVUE EFVs or pre-bookable by the drivers.

Freight Electric Vehicles in Urban Europe Vehicles BRING runs 4 Peugeot Partner EV Range 170 km. Battery size 22,5 kW/h. Cargo volume: 3,3-3,7 m 3. Performing well since April 1 st Nice season so far, more concerns for winter. Some issues with public fast chargers: Queues during rush hours, or not working.

Freight Electric Vehicles in Urban Europe Logistics operation Demonstration area includes commercial areas with shops, office buildings, flat and other public services. 4 BRING EFVs pick up and deliver goods from companies to customers along the routes. BRING drivers are employed through a franchise agreement and have their own businesses and vehicles.

Freight Electric Vehicles in Urban Europe Charging Infrastructure 400 normal public charging points in public streets Can be used by BRING vehicles if necessary and available The city of Oslo has launched a public tender for fast chargers for dedicated use by BRING vehicles. Expected by April 2015, application for funding is under consideration. CHADEMO (primarily), most likely also CCS and AC. To be reserved or bookable by BRING EFV drivers during daytime, being prioritized in the booking system. Will be open to the public at other times (depending on location).

Freight Electric Vehicles in Urban Europe ICT tools A smart booking system for fast charging will be implemented (development early 2015). The fast charger supplier is responsible for booking software. BRING has decided to update fleet management system, to include route optimisations for 4 EVs.

Freight Electric Vehicles in Urban Europe Issues and risks Both identifying locations and the purchasing process for fast chargers incl. software for pre- booking, are time-consuming tasks. EVs range in winter conditions is a concern. Risks: No offer for fast-charging, or to develop the prebooking software Risks: Development of route optimisation

Freight Electric Vehicles in Urban Europe Future Operation Project plan Oct – Sept. 2015, next 12 months: Continue daily operation with 4 BRING EV’s, and experience winter. Upgrade fleet management system to include route optimization for EVs. Plan to collect and review data on their daily performance. Establish two fast chargers, implement pre-booking software and collect data on the usage of fast chargers and pre-booking software.

Freight Electric Vehicles in Urban Europe Communications The FREVUE project is presented at national and international conferences. Plan to have a press-release when fast chargers are put into operation. 2 nd Innovation in Urban Freight International Workshop In Oslo, Sept. 22/ participants incl. FREVUE partners Oslo Municipality, BRING, SINTEF, TNO, Binnenstadservice.
