Jimmy Carter Camp David Accords- Jimmy Carter negotiated a treaty between Israel and Egypt. These were two major enemies in the Middle East. Iran Hostage Crisis- During a revolution in Iran in 1978, nearly 200 Americans were taken hostage when the American Embassy was taken over. They held the Americans for over a year. It illustrated weakness of US Government and destroyed Carter’s Presidency. Soviets Invade Afghanistan- We support Afghan rebels who became AL Qaida and the Taliban. We boycott the 1980 Olympics in Moscow.

Carter Domestic Energy Crisis- Gas shortages result in long lines at gas stations and other measures High Inflation Carter loses 1980 election by a landslide.

Ronald Reagan Foreign Ends Cold War by increasing American Military Spending and Soviet Union begin to collapse

Reagan Former movie star Nearly Assassinated in 1981 “Trickle Down Economics” Help the rich and the benefits will trickle down to middle and lower classes.

George Bush Foreign Berlin Wall Falls USSR breaks apart. Becomes Russia 1 st Persian Gulf War- US Forces drive Iraq military forces out of Kuwait. Operation Desert Storm. We do not get rid of Saddam Hussain.
