SWBAT Use a map to identify places of geopolitical significance within South West Asia.

 As we go through the important key players/landforms, be sure to map them onto your notes!  Why?  Many of the countries in the Middle East have a strained political relationship with the United States.

 Capital: Cairo  Fact: Ancient Egyptian civilization was one of the earliest human civilizations in the world!

 Capital: Riyadh  Fact: world’s largest producer of oil. G0bvpwgc

 Capital: Sana’a  Fact: Training ground for terrorism. Widespread political turmoil.

 Capital: Jerusalem  Fact: the country was created in 1947 as a Jewish homeland (formerly known as Palestine)

 Capital: Claims Jerusalem  Fact: Recently denied statehood. Palestinian effort to establish a homeland drives conflict in the region. world-middle-east

 Label all countries and their capitals onto your map!  You may use numbers or colors to represent your countries, but DON’T FORGET to create a legend!  When finished, turn map into front table. Take the Middle East Extension Pack.  Read the selected articles and answer the questions that follow.  You will need to write more than a sentence for each.
