There have also been reports of increased tagging, increased vandalism and recently three shops have been burgled in this area. You are patrolling in your vehicle when you see this.

NTS 2014 Nelson What makes the second report a better report ?

NTS 2014 Nelson It is complete, factual and accurate. It contains all relevant information to support Police in responding effectively. Who: What: Where: When: Weapons:

NTS 2014 Nelson Why is this important to us as a Local Patrol Group and as a National Organisation? ?

NTS 2014 Nelson Locally Timely and accurate reporting supports the Police in a timely and relevant response to incidents. Supports timely and relevant intelligence gathering Fosters a professional and reliable relationship with Police and other services at a local level. It is what the Police have tasked us to do...Observe and Report. Enhances the safety and well being of patrol members Assists in gaining public trust and confidence

NTS 2014 Nelson Locally Supports Crime Prevention strategies by: Anticipating, recognising and appraising crime risk, and initiating the actions to reduce or remove it. Provides intelligence and data to better plan for and implement more effective local patrols. Planned, systematic, intelligence led patrols are more effective in deterring and reducing crime Enhances local knowledge for all patrol members. Measures and quantifies our contribution to the community

NTS 2014 Nelson Nationally Ensures compliance with our reporting requirements to our strategic partners...Police and MOJ. Enhances our collaborative working relationship with Police at a national level. Supports our National Mission Statement of “Working together throughout New Zealand to reduce crime and build safer communities”. Statistics are used to assist the Police in compiling annual reports. Justifies our contribution to existing and potential funders. Supports and justifies applications for funding. The good work of community patrollers can be measured and quantified.

NTS 2014 Nelson What can patrollers do to support this? Be observant. Be curious. Report factually, completely and accurately. Over report – it may not seem relevant at the time but may be relevant further down track. Understand that what you are doing is important for your patrol, for CPNZ on a national basis, for the Police and most importantly for you and your community. Always consider that national statistics are only as good as the reporting quality of our patrollers.
